Everything has changed! Please, help!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so it's been almost a year since I've played DayZ the last time. Mostly cause I didn't have time, and partialy cause I didn't have company. But, I'd like to do my "lone wolf" run again. I reinstalled DayZ Commander (cause it was so out of date it just crushed every time I wanted to update it. So, I reinstall it, and go to the install/update menue and WHOA!! There's tons of mods now? DAYZ (which is the original one I suppose), DAYZ+, DAYZ 2017 and so on... I have updated my DayZ Commander, Arma 2 and the DAYZ mod... minimum ping in server browser is over 500. I see all the different descriptions like custom starting gear, always day and stuff like that... I want to start a fresh new game, with basic gear on a medium populated server and go from there, like I did a year ago. Is that even possible? What's with the ping? I used to have a great number of servers with up to 30-50 ping and now this.

Also, what's with the new mods? Should I just install everything? I guess some are new maps, maybe some have an end game, or teams? Really don't know, so any basic info on all of this will be much appreciated!

DayZ Namalsk, Fallujah, Lingor, Tavania, Panthera & Takistan (takistan is pretty shit) are all maps.

Origins is a mod based on tavania with a bunch of new features like base building and a new bandit/hero system that works in tiers

2017 is a MORE survival based DayZ with next to no military loot and alot less food

that's all i got.

So 2017 is the mod I wanted since I first played DayZ :D

Thanks man!

And I just install whatever I want from those and flip through them and select servers? Or I can have just one mod installed at the time?

You can install multiple mods at once, I would recommend at least trying them all just to see what you've missed. Not all mods are created equal though, there are many good mods and there are some bad ones too, I would suggest you do a bit of reading on each mod. Some of the files can be a bit big so if you're like me and don't have the greatest internet connection you can afford to be a bit picky or you could just let it work its magic and go catch a movie while you wait.

You should play Namalsk 2017, it's even worse.

Anyways, yeah, you just download what you want and you can connect to those servers, No need to uninstall ones you aren't using.

Ok, I installed DayZ 2017 for beginning... so now I just type in dayz 2017 in filters or? And yeah, about the ping... dayz commander's still showing over 300-400 pings as the lowest ping server. Is there something wrong with the commander or?

Don't type the filters thing like that.

Hit the little drop-down thingy on the left side, halfway down, and choose the mod you want to play.

I just checked for 2017 and got pings in the low 100 range.

I am on the East Coast of United States. Not sure how that will help you. If you are in Croatia, perhaps you want European servers but it all depends on your backbone/ISP.

What are the pings of the servers when you get in-game?

Haven't gotten in game yet, I was uploading and downloading whole afternoon yesterday, I'm gonna try it in a n hour or so.

HMS - thanks, I didn't even notice the mod selector there :D

Yeah, I'm in Croatia, but last time I was playing I could play many US servers with low ping too.

And I just checked it out again, ping looks "normal" now on commander. Around 2000 servers are now marked as less than 150, most of them being around 30-35.

Tobias Winfro suggested reading about the mods - is there a topic/blog/some kind of article with all these mods described, or will I just have to find their own topics as they were released?

That's the last question, I swear :D

Personally, my advice would be ignore all mods except the original DayZ, as they're boring and you'll soon lose interest. Also, use DayZ Commander to find the lowest pings to make it easier to play.

I've started on a original mod today, some UK server. Zombies in every freaking house I enter, that must be new :D

I forgot so many things, but the game isn't any less enjoyable than it was a year ago.

Hello there

Ive not played most of the major imitators and like Sula prefer vanilla servers.

However I do like playing on different islands as long as they have a "vanilla" style loot rate etc.

Finding too much kit to easily makes the game uber dull for me.

I lied... I have one more question :D

Noticed that loot is placed in all the different places now... there is none where there was before (like those wooden houses with a hallway and a dinning room). So where to look?

You can still find loot in all the same places as before, its just there's less chance of it,

But to counter that they've added new loot locations all over the place.

Check around the outside of buildings, the doorsteps of non enterable houses, next to sheds, in the middle of rubble piles in the street, that kind of thing.

You'll be surprised how much you can find just by slowing down and checking every building in a small town like Kamenka.

Totally agree the thing is everyone is so hyped/pumped up all they do is make a beeline for either the cities or NWAF just to find medium to high end gear forgetting that food/drink are the important essentials first and found just about anywhere.
