a BIG fuss over a small update :-/

Recommended Posts

So i have only just played some DayZ servers after the latest update, and one of the first things that i notice is the zombie buffs and that in itself is OK by me :-D

but the second and the most disorienting thing i come across is the large lack of loot on both high low-player servers, and i don't know what to think of this, normally i would log into a server and get kitted out to head north (as you do) or get shot on sight and looted but now i feel everything has changed

maybe this would be less of a problem in the standalone due to the amount of buildings lootable

Yes, it has. There is much less stuff, so there's much less to do. Trying finding an axe and hacking the zeds apart before they kill you! :)

I like the newer updates, and while I understand some of the frustrations of some people, let me explain why I think it's all a step in the right direction towards a more realistic game.

Personally I think having total badass killer zombies is awesome, because now instead of clearing through paths of zombies my friends and I choose to just avoid that particular path for the obvious reasons of infection, or just getting our asses handed to us by a horde. It gives me that feeling of needing to wait for the right time to move.

About the loot, obviously some people are are stressed as to the amount of time spent into looking for equipment. I too used to be in agreement that the loot was too rare. Then - take this in - I looked outside the cities of Cherno and Elektro. Within two hours (a reasonable time to get suited up) I had myself an AK with 4 mags, camo clothing, all the food and water I needed, a shit tonne of medical supplies and a UAZ in perfect condition. I stopped playing the game with the idea that I must 'get off shoreline, live by NWAF' and started playing to just survive. I find it much better that I don't have to deal with 25 different people that got strapped up in 20 minutes and headed north. I like the feeling of "YES I @#$*ING MADE IT!" more than "Well this is going to take a while".

Maybe this new update is simulating all of the loot in elektro and cherno being gone because everyone has been ransacking them for the last 12 months

less loot means more difficult survival. Dig it!

if you like loots try my server, not everyones cup of tea...never used to be mine but I think the new loot (crapness of it) was a bit harsh and was finding it hard to get players on the server.

Some regs are coming back now that loot is altered and we have a few new areas in Chernarus :)

The only thing I hate is when the game spawns nothing. Makes it feel so bleak with not even a tin can to throw around.

I'm really enjoying the new update. It's added a whole new dimension for me, useless weapons become vital because loot is sparse. Zombies are a threat again. The infection adds a real sense of urgency and a reason to keep quiet. You get infected, your in the shit. Unless you are lucky enough to find antibiotics.

My brother and I met in Cherno supermarket, freshly spawned. Before, I had found a couple of blood bags and some antibiotics in Balota. Score. I met another fresh spawn in the church on the way to the supermarket, bleeding, infected and traveling with an entourage. I dispatched the Z's with a hatchet, healed up the fellow and gave him my antibiotics. Good karma no?

Within 5 mins I was infected. Our search for decent gear became a dash to find antibiotics. Nothing in Cherno and elektro. We checked every town on the way to the NWAF, finding nice weapons (m14 and DMR) but still no antibiotics. The NWAF had none. The only reason I had survived this long is because we both found blood bags. Whilst checking the barracks, my brother also became infected. Fuck.

We made a decision - run as far south as we can, searching everything again until we die. We made it to Komarovo. We ran so far and found nowt. Hope was gone. My brother put me down with a shot to the head as I saluted our efforts.

Awesome.

Then he looted your shit, used his antibiotics that he hid from you, and lived happily ever after.

I enjoy new patch. Especially when i realize that one of the zombies is not going down with only two shots.

Awesome.

As long as you had fun, that's what it's all about. A new tactic to fight infection came along naturally with 1.7.7 and 1.7.7.1.

Suicide.

Just get to an isolated location near the coast, draw some zeds to your hiding spot to do SBZ (suicide by zed,) and hope nobody hears the flies before you respawn and retrieve your gear from your body. Done it many times already. Got my gear every time.

Feels real good to get rid of that coughing.

As evil as it is I'm happy that its moving people out of the cities. I feel like every time I went to a city it was a death sentence, so eventually I just stopped doing that.

Have you ever even gone up to the castles such as Zub and Rog? I swear, there's so much military loot there and no one to stop you. Or even places like the base outside of Balota Airfield where there used to be only 4 deer stands, but now there's hospital and military loot as well. Maybe it's just me, but no bambis or casuals will go there, but I still hear shots coming from the control tower as two people duke it out over loot spawns that are long gone.

I feel like people just aren't used to really getting down close to the ground and searching towns and villages, especially since early DayZ was all about running until you saw an enterable building then looking for loot. Last night a player was astounded when I told him that his "deserted" city had loot spawns outside of the doors of buildings. He came away with more beans and water than he could carry.

If you haven't already look up an interactive DayZ map to understand just how many spawns there are and how many you as a player may be running past: http://dayzdb.com/map#2.139.060
