Yeah but not all guns use magazines. Some DO use clips. Clips are usually just to load a gun faster. Go google 7.62x39mm stripper clip. The stripper lets you load an sks in a 10th of the time it would take to load without it. You can also buy adapters for ak47 mags to load them quickly with a stripper since lots of surplus ammo comes on strippers. (Funny I say that cause I just bought a crate of 1320 rounds today not on strippers, oh well.)

Edit: since I know someone's going to jump on what I said. Not all guns use EXTERNAL magazines. Most if not all (besides single shot) weapons have an internal magazine which you can feed with a clip or through individual loading of each round.
