OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 18, 2013 So, now I have another question as I wait on the download :D Are there any "PvE" servers so that I can learn the basics without just getting steam rolled by geared players?
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted June 18, 2013 Yes, there's a few apparently. My personal opinion is that half the fun if not all of it is learning the game whilst knowing you are under threat from other players, it'll make you a much better player in the long run. Also, if you want some basic training to get used to the controls etc then Arma (that's tha game you're purchasing) has lot's of tutorials from basic movement to flying planes. You should try those first to get familiar with the controls, then you can just join a normal DayZ server when you feel comfortable.
strykeraid 5 Posted June 18, 2013 Search for "No pvp" servers
OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 18, 2013 Thanks for the quick responses :D I've piddled with Arma 2 Free so I know a little about the tutorials but I'm sure it isn't going to hurt to refresh my memory.

As I say you may be able to find some PVE servers but practicing on those will just make you better at PVE. In my opinion DayZ is fun/challenging because of the tension that comes from knowing you may be being watched by another player, it's that paranoia that has made DayZ famous. But, each to their own, everyone likes different things so find what works for you and have fun.
=DiG= Zgraphz 84 Posted June 18, 2013 the best way to learn how to play dayz is tell everyone your friendly and watch how many times that gets u killed, then the grouping phase, you trust your partner to keep you safe, until u find something he wants, then he kills you and you feel your first betrayal, after that you become a soul-less merchant of death who has no moral of right or wrong, only thing left is to survive. then u become like us:)
HMS 115 Posted June 18, 2013 Good luck, OneGunSalute, and welcome to your worst nightmare. And while these guys are technically not incorrect about the human threat, you have literally no business being hunted at all (in vanilla dayz) as a fresh spawn. If you find a PvE server that can somehow enforce it, go with it, Or start with very low population servers. You will not be missing anything yet. It ain't a deathmatch, it's more of a marathon. When you are comfortable, jump into "regular" servers or get with me and I'll help you out. I've survived a long time without firing a shot at another human.
OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) Now if I can get the game running XD Keep getting errors.I'm kind of worried because I was loading it showed the crow flying which I thought meant Fade was kicking in? Edited June 19, 2013 by OneGunSalute
OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 19, 2013 Now I can't get into any lobbies, it just keeps taking me back to multiplayer setup over and over.
OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 19, 2013 So, I either get the incorrect version error or I just keep looping to player lobby, not sure what is going wrong :C
TheDesigner 1197 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) IMHO, PvE servers ruin the point of DayZ. Players are and always will be the biggest threat in DayZ. By eliminating that, you end up with a CareBear adventure with savage zombies added in. Albeit zombies are a bigger threat in 1.7.7 than previously, players still have one vital advantage over zombies. A brain. If you don't like the idea of dying and having to start over again, I'm baffled as to why you'd want this game.(I use "you" as a pronoun to describe the audience, not just the OP) Edited June 19, 2013 by TheDesigner
OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 19, 2013 As I stated, I would like to be on a PvE server to learn the map/game and such. I have a brain, but so does everyone and else and I still bet they die to zombies.
OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 19, 2013 So, I have the Steam version, downloaded DayZ Commander, updated through there to 1.7.7, go to a 1.7.7 server and says I have the wrong version, the game displays 1.62 for some reason, any ideas?
geogeorgegeo@hotmail.co.uk 50 Posted June 19, 2013 Make sure you are using the beta patch too and that it is the same as the servers'.
OneGunSalute 2 Posted June 19, 2013 That was it, the beta patch was my problem :D Now I just gotta' figure out what the hell I'm doing, So far I've managed to grab some chemlights and I got in a car that would only spin in a circle and wouldn't go forward...just hold w and it does a donut XD There's no global anymore so now I can't even try to ask other people for their help. Horny goldfish (DayZ) 10 Posted June 19, 2013 IMO best way to survive is to attempt to avoid human contact..... Unless its a bandit slaughter the scum if it is
5P4RK4 (DayZ) 50 Posted June 19, 2013 Would definitely recommend playing Vanilla DayZ in a standard server. If you want to avoid contact while you get acquainted with things, simply play on a server without many people online.
HMS 115 Posted June 19, 2013 Car spinning in circles: tempted to say you were missing a tire, but I don't think you'd actually move at all.Probably, your mouse was jerked in one direction or the other. In a car, double tap ALT, so you can get into free-look mode, and just use WASD for steering. But if you are still this new there is tons more to learn. You are on your way.Search for "backpack tutorial" and learn about the inventory management or you will lose everything you ever owned.
Gking19 22 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) I would recommend playing on a regular DayZ server, as everyone else has suggested. You learn on the go, and I think that's the best way to learn, because it stays with you in my opinion. Good luck c: Edited June 19, 2013 by Gking19
Shark Eel 9 Posted June 29, 2013 So, now I have another question as I wait on the download :D Are there any "PvE" servers so that I can learn the basics without just getting steam rolled by geared players? There are some... but they normally have 'NO PVP' in their name. This just angers me, and many other bandits to the point where we will join the server just to murder everyone and get kicked.

HardlyThoughtOf 8 Posted June 30, 2013 You need to start off on regular servers in order to learn the basics of always worrying about other players.
