leviski 2152 Posted June 16, 2013 Alright As the threads title suggest why not add in a knockdown effect at close range to certain weaponsfor instanceshotguns should have thisanything that shoots a .45 ACP should have thispossibly a few other gunsCurrently in 1.7.7 Revolvers are amazing Some wanker came after me with a hatchet and I shot him right in the leg with my revolver and he went down/knocked outthen tried crawling after me (we were in the upstairs of a elektro apartment near the supermarket) but zombies blocked him so he ran off/crawled away I believeeither way any ideas how something like this could be implementedwould you like to see it put into the game?would you not like to see it?/discussAnd before you go shouting willy nilly about realism guns defenetly knock you down in real lifeunless its an AP round which would go right through youand potentially still knock you down.
methr1k2dop3 323 Posted June 16, 2013 (edited) Would definitely make the shotgun more viable.I would like to see it with close range combat only. Edited June 16, 2013 by methr1k2dop3

applejaxc 2500 Posted June 16, 2013 Realistically, a .45 to the leg or chest would knock you on your stomach/ass respectively, but most people would fine the M1911 overpowered.
-Gews- 7443 Posted June 16, 2013 I'd prefer not to see it, too much personal bias involved, the energy of the bullet won't knock you down so it all comes down to "stopping power" and shock, and that's an issue people seem to have deeply entrenched views on, without any actual evidence to back it up ("this .45 round feels heavy in my palm", "this Tokarev has a hell of a muzzle blast", "this 9mm is shooting 124-grain +P+", "this .45 caliber round ball took down a doe at 90 yards", this 200-grain bullet will keyhole even at 600 fps").I'd prefer they just stick to some kind of formula and adjust it if necessary, you're never going to be 100% accurate, but you may as well be 100% consistent. If this was introduced (and I remember I suggested something like this a long time ago) it would have to be a percent-chance-per-caliber modified by the current velocity... not fair saying a 9x19 can't drop someone in one shot while a marginally more powerful round always does.I don't even have 1.7.7 installed yet. I'm gonna go and see what they've done to the pistols.

I hope they haven't gone back to the old "9mm Makarov twice a powerful as 9mm Para"... la la la ♫Anyways, while I'm thinking of it, the 7.62x51 weapons have this already... I remember shooting a few people with my CZ, from 300-700 m every single person I shot was knocked out in one shot, except one guy I hit in the leg (1/2 damage). Hmmm. Kind of different power levels than pistols though.Okay, downloaded...WHY DOES A MAKAROV DO OVER TWICE THE DAMAGE OF A 9MM PARABELLUM CHANGE THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Xeiom 3 Posted June 16, 2013 I'm not sure if I clearly understand.Do you want both people to be knocked back or just the opponent?Either way I like the idea of realistic knock back, this is a simulator after all.
terminal_boy 860 Posted June 16, 2013 Knockdown effect only happens in Hollywood movies. Short of being hit by a .50 BMG or .577 Nitro Express bullet (one being designed to stop German tanks in WW1 and the other for stopping charging rhinos), you're not going to be thrown onto your arse due to a bullet impact. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted June 16, 2013 Bullets are made to penetrate. They won't knock you back or send you flying, they go through you. That doesn't mean you'd just stand and take it.You'd be winded, weakened or otherwise forced to take a knee from WAY less injury than a gunshot, so it wouldn't be too unrealistic to leave you slightly stunned or stumbling briefly after you've eaten a couple of bullets.Maybe throwing you on your rear is excessive, but knocking you off-balance definitely makes sense. enforcer1975 1111 Posted June 16, 2013 (edited) Anything will knock you down...if you want to knock down someone use a bat because the most effective way.Any bullet powerful enough will most likely penetrate a target if you fire it close enough. Solid slugs will pass clean through in most cases. If a bullet passes it mean the energy it has hasn't been transfered into your body meaning you won't be feeling much of it nor will it throw you meters away like in hollywood movies. They already said the bullet power that throws the victim backwards is equal to the power the shooter feels. So if hollywood was true nobody would ever shoot a firearm ever because they would break their sholder the first time they fired it ( imagine something with a recoil 100 times more powerful than the gun in the youtube video and you know what i mean ) Any bullet that hits you and doesn't hit a vital area will cause pain and has the potential to make you incapable of fighting back.
