Caliaton 0 Posted June 15, 2013 Hey guys, I started playing this game not too long ago, and ever since I started I have had the same problem. I will join a server that has good connection, and when I first spawn, in my framerates are where I think they normally should be, but after I've been in the server for a few minutes, my framerate will just drop out of nowhere. I will be in the same area I was just getting 50-60 fps at and then be getting 30-40 fps. Why is this? And after this happens, even changing settings from very high to very low does virtually nothing :( For reference I have a gtx 690 w/ an i5 3570k and 8gb of ram. applejaxc 2500 Posted June 15, 2013 30-40 is NOTHING to complain about.Anyway: The game takes a few minutes to spawn in all the zombies and wrecks and whatnot around you. Since they aren't loaded right away, your PC has no strain at first.

triage 117 Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) Arma 2 inst a optimized game Edited June 15, 2013 by Iownzyou
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted June 15, 2013 Even with a high end system it's nothing to worry about? You get FPS drops from 50+ to 10-20 on an i7 because of Hyperthreading and other things. So yes, even with a high-end PC it's common to get FPS drops while playing ARMA 2 / DayZ.ARMA 2 is an old, old game and has never been optimized properly. And definitely does not support the newer hardware.
applejaxc 2500 Posted June 15, 2013 Even with a high end system it's nothing to worry about? No. That's bloody impressive for DayZ.Do you own ArmA 3?
=DiG= Zgraphz 84 Posted June 16, 2013 (edited) Ummm, yah. Arma 2 isn't poorly optimized, just how the game works. Just because most people don't understand that the game revolves around 3 main components, 3.0ghz processor 4 gigs of ram fast hdd/ssd for arma file indexing, and a beefy gpu to back it all up. That's all you need. Anyone tells you other wise they don't know what they are talking about. Edited June 16, 2013 by =DiG= Zgraphz
gambla 118 Posted June 16, 2013 You can't compare A2 to other games, it's a military simulator, used by Armys around the world. It does much more realistic calculations of e.g buletts etc. as any simple shooter game.
TIC 1050 Posted June 16, 2013 I think DayZ Standalone would be your best bet for something to seek for further optimization/performance gains. ArMA2 makes your computer run harder for certain mods; particularly DayZ.Overall; ArMA 2 isn't very well optimized..Have you done at least the basics? Such as startup parameters, video settings and such? It's obviously not your PC. Your frames are better than average.
IcyZ 295 Posted June 16, 2013 I play, livestream and record at the same time Battlefield 3 maxed out on Ultra with 90+ frames. I play DayZ and I'm lucky if my frames are more than 40 in Cherno. Arma will eat your frames, just look up guides to set the settings to get the max frames, but NEVER download any frame-fixing software, IT'S A TRAP
