Real Military Style Faceshields/Helmets

Hi everyone,

I've seen the motorcycle helmet and it seems like that has a certain appeal to it receiving good reviews.

Here's some badass face shields and I think this would be very cool. It could also protect against headshots?

Ehhh.

I like the idea of some helmets in-game, however:

-I wouldn't wear a motorcycle helmet unless I was riding a motorbike, those things are hot and heavy

-I doubt you'd find the latest $400 "Predator FAST G4" in some Chernarussian backwater...

I'd prefer helmets like this:

Personally I wouldn't put on a helmet in a "survival situation", they're heavy and uncomfortable and it's not exactly warfare in the trenches, but that's not a factor in-game. They also shouldn't protect against most headshots, especially from rifles, unless there's some way to model slight glancing shots, maybe that could knock players out.

I'd rather see helmets for hockey/shinty/hurling than fancy military gear TBH.

There would obviously be military gear around, but I think sports equipment should be more common.

They'd obviously be for protection rather than looks. Because you'll look like an idiot running around wearing a helmet all the time.

They won't stop a bullet, but they'll protect your noggin from concussive damage a bit.

we aren't in WWII either though..... i would like the Predator FAST G4 because there is a element of military during the infection and even zed soldiers in the game. Players end up with military style gear anyways thats how DayZ works

Steel helmets aren't limited to WWII, in fact I believe you'd be much more likely to find them:

As well as Kevlar helmets, although Eastern European models. There are also cool types of helmets such as tankers wear:

Personally I won't support adding (almost) anything Western, and especially not high-tech American goodies. Anything added should also be found in the former Soviet Union/Yugoslavia.

DayZ has, what...

15 Eastern weapons (and that's being generous and including the double-barrel, all four vz58s, the CZ550 and the crossbow as "Eastern")

compared to

33 Western weapons! That's insane!

I can't stress this enough, it BOILS MY PISS that we have all these AR-15 variants when obvious choices have been left out... the SVD, the PKM, the PKP, the entire AK-107 series, the AK-74 PSO, the silenced AKS-74U, the KSVK... people should run around with SVDs, not USMC DMRS. What the fuck!

Gews is spot on about this, you're not going to find things like this in some tiny, backwater, post-soviet country. If we are finding military helmets, they should be things we would find in Chernarus, not the latest hi-tech military gear that no army is using in large numbers. I feel the same way when people want things like AA12s in the game, I'd rather have something more appropriate for the setting.

The idea that helmets sop head shots is a lil bit stupid... i mean yes some military grade helmets can stop assault rifle rounds. However the impact of the shot would still kill you due to the amount of G's forced on your head. Helmets are usually used for protection against shrapnel and light gun fire.

And that's where rocket has to give playes a reason not to see the game as the new CoD or next gen strategic game where nothing else matters but the biggest weapon... Even when a crisis really struck the US not everyone ( especially civilians ) would run around weilding an arsenal big enough to equip a platoon. There are some gunnuts but the majority will not have heavy weapons and not a few will have no weapons at all. Having 100 weapons among 100 people doesn't mean everyone has one... Welding masks, for example. I have one in my shed and it's got an adjustable light block, and a relatively strict field of view as you have metal surrounding everything except a small rectangle of glass that you look out of. Something like this.

Now, obviously this isn't going to be an infinite headshot block, but it should at least offer some protection, particularly against close quarters weapons. Note that there is no protection on the back of the head, however the entire face is covered.

you cannot deny that helmet is badass but if there is going to be various amount of helmets why not just offer this in a very limited capacity...

I doubt that thing will even give you protection since that thing along with the bat or whatever hits you from front or the side will smash that thing into your face...it's just held in place by a headband and that won't dampen any kind of force.

And with 3P active there will be no disadvantage whatsoever with the limited fov of head protection.

Last but not least military loot...the only thing of value for players is high tech military loot because they mistake DayZ for CoD or BF. Let's see how it ends when they have their backpacks and trunks filled with weapons and ammo and have nothing to eat and nobody or nothing is nearby.
