How to make a server?

Recommended Posts

I am brand new to DayZ and loving it. I was wondering how to set up a server of my own? And is there different server versions like Arma 2 dayz and Arma 3 dayz?

Word to the wise, :) There are tons of private dayz servers, i would surf thru first, and see if one sparks your intrest for you and your friends before adding yet another dayz private server to the list :) Just some friendly advice. Me and my boyfriend recently started a server, we have a decent population but it takes forever to get that on your server :) we were lucky to have a few friends that played it prior to setting up the server so they all joined ours :) Your more then welcome to check out our server, you may like it :) Info for that is in my sig :)

Okay I might. Do you use the DayZCommander to advertise your server? One of my buddies said he rented space on that and got a lot of players. He also said he was making some cash from custom loadouts through donations, I would like to know how to do that as well.

I feel that the DayZ community in general looks down on paid custom loadouts. It's extremely hard to get a popular server going these days because there are too many server already. I would just join a server you like instead.

I'd love to play your server if you're willing to teach me a bit about DayZ as I'm still pretty new to it.

Oh alright...I was hoping to make some cash but okay.

This pisses me off. Trying to make personal money off of a FREE mod. If you take donations and put them to making a better server, then that is a different situation. But really? Cmon man. Sorry for the rant, but really.

You're not allowed to use the money you make for personal needs. You can have your server revoked for that. Also...Thats fucked up

(You can have your server revoked and pulled off the hive for a myriad of things hosting companies and operators are brazenly doing right now, much of it openly advertised in DayZ Commander.)

It sounds like you want to maybe rent a server. If that is the case, I hope you seriously consider moving along. There are so many empty servers. Just use one of them, and if you are not experienced in running a server all you are going to do is cause headaches for players who are going to put up (and lose) their tents and vehicles when your server sits unmanaged and goes down in flames.

Now that I got all the discouraging crap out of my system:

If you want to learn how to set one up and run it properly, go to http://opendayz.net/ and start reading.

From experience, I recommend Pown0z0ns0nzor's server build.

Very bad name. Very good server setup and customization.

None of it is easy. If you decide to try, and have problems, read through his section, and hit me up here and I will help you out. The benefit of doing this is that you will learn what goes into the process, and what you are paying for if you go with a hosting company. You will find it very rewarding as well. It may also put you off ever playing the game again too, because of what you will learn along the way.

Best of luck!

I agree with HMS that getting a glimpse behind the DayZ curtain i.e. learning how all the server and client code works can subtract from the experience somewhat. I suppose it varies from player to player. Just do a search on private DayZ server providers, choose one and go for it. Don't charge for gear - that would be my advice. Get a paper route instead ... if you want spending change.
