[SA] No snipers, no choppers.

Recommended Posts

Nowadays you enter in a barrack or go directly into a heli crash site and you are just probably going to find hi-tech equipment & guns. Imagine if only 1 AS50 or M107 respawn per server, you can have a minimal amount of weapons and at the same time reward the guys who can find it first, so they will get more valuable and less available in general. I don't find illogical to find any of these weapons in a "military country", but at least they can make them difficult to find.

the problem with snipers is that if you dont have a good secondary the zombies will kill you. just make snipers attract more zombies and when you hold a gun like a sniper (which is heavy) you run slower and the zombies will catch up and eat you.

No cars and no guns. Welcome to standalone were only melee weapons and their terrible animations are the way forward. Sorry OP but I like variety.

Fear not Victus, there will be guns. Let's not forget the new attachment system too.

I'm sure Rocket said guns and cars will be later in the development. I could be wrong though.

The KSVK (Russian anti-material sniper rifle) would be a fitting replacement to the M107 and AS50 IMO.

Honestly, I have no idea how much the KSVK actually weighs, nor can I find any facts about it anywhere. I'm sure Gews knows though.

The KSVK weighs 12kg without a scope and unloaded. I personally think that this should be added, with a lesser spawn rate than the current AS50.

Cars probably will be held back because they want to over-haul the whole system to allow for customisation, damage of specific parts (visible) etc but there will be guns. Maybe not the full compliment of guns that we'll have on full release but there will be guns. They're not just porting Arma stuff in, they're adding new models textures ect. for every gun so after initial release guns will probably keep being added as they develop them in the regular updates..

Edit - BTW don't quote me on this, really at this point nobody except the devs know what content there will be on initial release.

Yeah I think it'll definitely be a love hate situation for me with SA in the beginning. I really enjoy military items but don't depend on it. Dayz is much more fun when every place you go to could be your last.

Agreed. TBH if it releases with very limited content I'll just hold of playing for a bit. I did the same with KSP, when I bought it initially there was only about 4 rockets and the moon now it has a whole solar system and and countless parts to build with.

And Fraggle, you still need 10% more posts to reach the 10,000 post mark, so don't say that you have 10,000 posts yet. I know you are really excited

Honestly, I have no idea how much the KSVK actually weighs, nor can I find any facts about it anywhere. I'm sure Gews knows though.

Missed this.

11 kg empty, dat's on Wiki. What's not on Wiki:

It can fire the 12.7x108mm 7N34 sniper round, this is a 910-grain (59 g) bullet at a nominal muzzle velocity of 2,526 ft/s (770 m/s). Another source lists a sniper round which is 864 grains (56g) at a nominal muzzle velocity of 2,395 ft/s (730 m/s) but doesn't say if it's the 7N34 or a different variant such as SPTs. Without actually chronographing the rifle it's hard to say which figures are correct. Perhaps both. These sniper loads were introduced by the KBP Design Bureau and the bullets are made of solid steel or solid brass depending on the load. Thinking in my head, perhaps the heavier bullet is the brass variant and the lighter one the steel, this could also explain why one is so much slower (steel is harder, more force from rifling? Maybe they switched entirely to brass... steel bullets sound nasty. Who knows.)

(By comparison the M107 usually fires M33 ball, this varies by manufacturer but Barrett's own standard XM33 is 661 gr at 2,750 ft/s).

It can also fire the various other 12.7x108mm rounds including armor-piercing and incendiary bullets, this seems to be more common in practice. Accuracy is said to be about 2 MOA with machine-gun-grade ammunition (unimpressive) although it will improve when using better cartridges.

The problem with the 50 cals is not the damage, but how insanely unrealistic it is to be carrying around a 30+ pound anti-material sniper rifle killing other survivors. These guns have no place in DayZ.

We're talking Standalone here, if they made any attempt to make it realistic, they would definitely discourage usage of them, but they still exist.

After I logged off for the night, I got to thinking, I don't know if I would be playing DayZ if Chernarus had the same gun laws as the strict countries in various places of the world have. Places where people don't even know some one who knows some one who has a weapon. Some of the countries make sharp knifes over three inches long illegal. The appeal of running around with only cricket bats, hockey sticks, axes and 2x4s with nails sticking out of them. Really doesn't sound like something I would stick around for.

My play style is that of a ranger, I run around the woods living off the animal meat and water ponds. Going into town only when I need medical supplies or something else to do. My prefered weapon is the M16 ACOG, the longer range for picking zombies off with out agro or pulling over watch for a friend who is going in while I pick those zombies off for him from range. No agro for iether of us. Now sure, there are times when I switch to my hatchet for stealth killing of a zombie, but it isn't my primary weapon and I wouldn't want it to be. With the .50s out now, there is no longer a fast way to disable a vehicle either. It is now a guaranteed exit strategy. As for their one shot kills on people, sounds pretty realistic to me. Even if they were semi automatic. Sounds like real life to me as well.

Like I said, I prefer weapons in the game to mimic their real life counter part. Not be modified for game balancing issues.

They should mimic their real-lie counterparts... AS50s and M107s can do that by either staying in America and in the labs of Accuracy International, or by being so heavy no one will actually want to take one...

I have no idea why DayZ hasn't already added in weapons like the AK-74 PSO, the PKM, PKP, SVD, etc, when they have added in American versions of the above-mentioned guns.

It truly confounds me.

I agree with the OP.

And while rockets at it, he should just take out ALL guns, because who would use a gun in a post zombie apocalyptic scenario?

Pussies, that's who.

If you want to read more: http://world.guns.ru...rus/ksvk-e.html

Why lesser spawn rate? The AS 50 is a western weapon and has never been there if you read the "virtual" history of the country, no brits have been there. If anything you should find 100 soviet weapon for every western weapon. If it were Sahrani the "equal amount of western weapon and eastern weapon loot probability" would be valid since the south Sahrani forces used western weapons and the communist north had... take a guess.

I agree to a point, being sniped from 1200 meters away is very annoying. However, sniper rifles have been a very important part of day z and Arma Since the begining. it would be nice if sniping was made to be a bit harder, this could be done by having wind affect the bullet, as well as rain, and the Coriolis effect.

As for choppers i would have to disagree with this one. choppers, like sniper rifles, have become sort of a status symbol in Day Z. While pros of a chopper often outweigh the cons, they are still very real and very present. having a chopper makes you a prime target for bandits and heros alike, as choppers are often associated with bases and top tier gear (ignore the rhyme) you will find yourself getting attacked more often than not when you possess a Chopper, also its fun to do back flips.

AS-50 is an english sniper rifle, it came with the ARMA II: BAF expansion pack therefore there's a chance it could be in Russia.

When it comes to the mod, I think that the AS50 and M107 should be removed, because they aren't 'realistic' enough, they allow you to sprint at normal speed, as well as don't have the best ballistic mechanics.

My arguments for keeping them in mainly defer to the standalone, where hopefully guns feel more 'real' and they can be added so they are more inconvenient to use outside of very certain scenarios, while still being a cool find.

I don't use sniper rifle or helicopters. I am not against them per se. What I am against are weapons/tools/vehicles/materials that are not represented with the proper postive AND negative aspects.

You cant run around with an AS50 the same as an MP5.

How many survivors are master aircraft maintence trained? Sure you may be able to figure out how to fly that bird but without proper maintence how many hours will you log before a hydralic line blows or stabilizer lets go? Random events like these should be in the game in my oppinion.

There should be few if any "no brainer" choices. For almost everything you gain there is something you should have to give. Such is life.

Except the AS50 is rare... like, really rare. I don't even think it's in service with UK forces. I haven't seen a single picture of anyone using it in combat.
