taco241 393 Posted May 12, 2013 Since we're low on discussable topics, I just wanted to point out how much I appreciate the world created by BI and the Real Virtuality engine (all bugs, and texture, optimization issues aside). The devs have done some decent research and although it's dated, not exactly well optimized, and has many issues, I much prefer the feel of the world in general to say, the ultra-saturated, polarized-filter looking world of Far Cry 3.The skies are never that rich blue, the vegetation is drab and brown-ish (I especially liked the post-nuke Chernarus at the end of Arma 2...for those who've finished it), and just feels a lot more real than high-budget plastic planets in other games. For what it is, here's a round of applause to this brown, unforgiving landscape.
colekern 1364 Posted May 12, 2013 I like Chernarus, but it does seem a little unrealistically unsaturated at times. But I do agree that it feels more real than most other games maps.
Hal-9000 8 Posted May 12, 2013 I think they did an outstanding job, looks a lot like the real deal http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/135390-so-i-went-to-the-real-chernarus-today/
AfterShave 140 Posted May 12, 2013 I think this might be a rant thread disguised as a thank you thread, watch it everybody.
taco241 393 Posted May 12, 2013 No rant.I mean it. I really find the landscape, despite the lack of minute detail to be more real than modern AAA games.

Isn't that an alternate ending? I got one of the good endings, the one where you make it back successful. It had a good story and a believable back drop. If the voice acting and facial animations weren't so poor, this could easily be better than many of the triple A titles released every year.
aussiestig 681 Posted May 12, 2013 Don't forget you can have upwards of 10,000m of view distance in Arma 2, as opposed to about 200m before the blur sets in, in Far Cry 3.Arma 2 isn't as badly optimized as people make it out to be, it just requires different hardware to perform better than most games. Most games these days are almost solely reliant on a good GPU, but Arma 2 is extremely HDD and CPU heavy. It just uses our computers in a different way to how we normally expect. But then there is the mist/fog..I've never experienced more than 3 km's at maximum.

fluxley 2228 Posted May 12, 2013 Its funny...'Peter Silie' did a post today with pictures of the real cherno. When you see this and see how it is in the game....its just amazing! (:When i look at those real life pictures it all feels very familiar even though ive never been there,Thats why i've always prefered chernarus other all of the other maps for DayZ, The attention to detail and authentic feel of everything makes it seem like i'm exploring someplace real.
SilverBulleT (DayZ) 3 Posted May 13, 2013 I liked these games, dating back to the original operation flashpoint, soley for their massive evironments. As far as I can remember (I could be wrong), but it's one of the original ("sandbox") games to me, next to the GTA series. I played the original flashpoint for countless hours online -- shooting down helicopters with RPGs and whatnot. The game was nothing spectacular to look at, but I couldn't walk away from it.The graphics throughout the series were always a little dated compared to the competion - but Arma II is still a decent looking game on today's standards, provided you have a PC good enough to turn up the settings to high/ultra high. I find this is a game where the visual range is very extreme - it looks like cat-piss on low end PCs, but on a high end PC it's still pretty spectaular for a game that's now nearly 4 years old. Also, unforunately both series (Flashpoint / Arma) - even from both developers have been plagued with bugs, so I don't think they ever attracted the following that they could have, had they worked out the bugs. It amazes me that after this long, the product is still just as buggy.
Hetstaine 10852 Posted May 13, 2013 Was not very impressed with the Far Cry 3 world at all, reminded me more of the original Crysis if anything. Chernarus and i have a special friendship though, every time i close my eyes i see lovely open fields, thickly wooded forests and promising small villages. Chernarus you slut..you have ruined me.

GOD™ 2795 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) the voice acting.I swear the voice acting ruined some parts in the story for me.The main voices like Razor team and shaftoe were alright. Edited May 14, 2013 by GOD™

Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted May 14, 2013 I swear the voice acting ruined some parts in the story for me.The main voices like Razor team and shaftoe were alright. The Chernarussian accent was so messed up. To me it sounded like they were French people speaking bad Russian(Chernarussian is Russian with a different name, if it makes them feel any better).
