HD 7870 10-15 fps on all settings

Recommended Posts

I just got Arma 2 for DayZ, and I've been having problems with my HD 7870. My CPU is FX 8320 OC'd to 4.3ghz, 2x2 1600mhz RAM (4gb's of ram is not the problem, I checked in the resource monitor and it only went up to 2.9 gb). Every single other game I have runs fine, just Dayz...

I set the quality to lowest and I get 10-15, then highest and still 10-15 fps.. I have latest drivers also.

I changed the config file in the Arma 2 according to other people having lag problems, and still no help.

What can I do?

Under normal circumstances, I would assume that your CPU is bottlenecking, but there is no way that that is the case here in therms of the CPU specification. I'm getting an HD 7870 in a couple of ways, I shall test it on my machine and let you know if I get the same problems. This would at least help pinpoint the reasons.

Sorry I can't be of more help at the moment.

Windows 64 bit ^ .

And no, CPU is not bottlenecking in anyway. I just tried Arma 2 and operation arrowhead campaign mode and I changed the settings to highest possible without vsync I'm getting 70 fps. So it's most likely something with my Dayz. I'll keep trying stuff I guess, lol.

It might be something wrong with the server?

I see. In case you figure out where your problem lies, could you post it in this thread afterwards? If not, I'll try to figure this out when I get my 7870, and post the results.

Try Arma 2 single player and give me your FPS on that.

Also, crank some settings up. Turning everything on low puts a lot on your CPU.

Very strange indeed. I run dayz with a 965BE at 3.7ghz and a 7850 1ghz 2gig and get the usual 50-60 forest and 35 in cherno. All settings very high, antialias Norm, Post Disabled, and HDR normal. Have you tried different servers and got the same result?

 My bad.

It's the server you're playing on. Find a new one.

Hi. As I promised, I tested this out with my new 7870 (Sapphire Flex Edition), and get very good FPS. i noticed the only setting that really affected performance appeared to be antialiasing (set to normal seems to work well, but drops to ~30FPS when set to 8). From this, I can conclude that the problem here is not the video card.

Specs for reference:

-Intel i5-3570k (3.4GHz)

-Sapphire HD 7870 (Flex Edition)

-8GB Ram

-Running at 1400x1050

I am getting 60+ frames per second on normal/high settings (with antialiasing set to 'normal') except in some big cities.

Hope this may be of use to the OP.

let me tell you that arma 2 and dayz are completely different even though dayz is a mod of arma 2. The spawning of zombies takes the biggest toll, item spawning depending on the server. it could really demand processor and HDD/SSD read& write speeds along with a healthy GPU to support the graphic load and enough Ram to back it all up. you could go play arma 2 OA dominion on a realism server and get 90-120 fps average, switch over to dayz, Your Fps will drop like a bomb. Needles to say, more players, more often zombies spawn. more players, more time loot spawns. that all take's a very heavy toll on the server and your PC, unless, it has the power to run it without any issues.
