  1. Alright there, good choices with both for CPU. I recommend the i5-3570k processor. It is the same processor I am using, and it does a solid 60fps on everything maxed out. I have a GTX 590, and I can tell you there will be no CPU bottlenecking whatsoever. Plus, it is a bit cheaper than the i7 version (i7-3770k). Moreover, the i5 is great for overclocking if you are into that. So, in conclusion, the i5 will do everything and more that you could want from it :)
  2. I have to second you there. In my humble opinion, zombies are not nearlly threatening enough as a group, as you can always outrun them. This would fix that very effectively, I belive.

    [SA] Kerbal easter egg suggestion

    Pretty sure he is sarcastic?

    Birds Birds Birds ! (SA)

Wow, I hope this makes it into the Standalone eventually. Seems like the kind of feature that just sits right at heart with the gameplay, while maintaining (if not adding) realism.

DayZ Double Developer Blog 14th May 2013

I think he may be talking about this: http://www.twitch.tv/mattlightfoot/b/408336099 :)
  6. Hey there guys :) After watching all videos of the pre-alpha release of DayZ, as well as experiences with the mod, I think there are some small additions that should be made. These two I belive would be particularly important: Ability to Search other Survivors No, not there dead corpses. As you all know, in the mod, you have the ability to search peoples backpacks and exchange stuff in that way. However, as allready shown in videos of the SA, there are now extra inventory slots/pockets in clothing items and the like, where a player may be able to hide gear. This is where I would like to have the ability to look at someones entire inventory, while they are still alive. For this system to work however, we need an other small feature. This would be the ability to surrender... The Surrender option Basically, after a certain keypress, you stand on the spot, with your hands raised to your head/resting on your head, similar to this: Only after a survivor has surrendered will his whole inventory be searchable. Thus, we are preventing any problems arising from people being able to access your gear, as it can only be done when you are actively surrendering. I personally belive these two mechanics would make gameplay much more interesting, as well as reduce the kill on sight mentality a bit. What do you guys think?

    A Topic of Thanks

Hehe, yeah, it seems to be a pretty common first time experience to walk around and get shot, by the looks of things, First time I played, I managed to get myself killed by running into a one-way enterable building without a weapon. The Zeds did the rest of the work... It seems I still haven't learnt my lesson. This happened many more times (much more so then I am proud to admit). Thank you Fluxley & Jeff-Detroit for your stories!

    LAG - Help Please !!

In all honesty, I would recommend you get a better CPU. I would consider upgrading to an i5-3570k (have the same CPU), and it runs DayZ very smoothly. I used to have a 590 and played DayZ maxed out at 60FPS constant, so I can guarantee you that the 3570k will not cause any CPU bottlenecking. By contrast, the one you currently have is dragging your system down, and probably causing most of the lag.
  9. Well...I have to start this off with a little story (bear with me, it won't be outrageously long! :)) Yesterday, me and a friend I recently convinced of getting DayZ played together for the first time. He spawned in Kamenka, and, as a first time player, was fairly lost. I told him to wait there, as I spawned close-by in Komarovo. By the time I got to him, he was surrounded by about 15 Zeds, and he was busy freaking out. None of us had any weaponry, but we took our chances and headed North, without any map nor compass. We lost the Zeds within 5 minutes of steady sprinting. As it turns out, we were heading straight for Drozhino. Keep in mind, as it was his first time playing, he did not know anything related to Dayz nor Arma, so this turned out to be an ideal place to teach him about using the (fairly horrible) inventory menu, how to use the backpack, lower your gun, go prown, etc. At this point, we found two old Double-Barelled shotguns and a few rounds of ammunition, but were very low on basic need supplies. We both had to use up all rounds on Zeds to loot enough Drink & food for the both of us before dehydration & starvation set in. It was a very narrow, temporary victory. During this situation, my friend got attacked by a Zed and lost a fair amount of blood. This occured twice, leaving us both with no bandages. We made the decision to keep pressing North, in the hope of finding a larger town. Purely by luck, we managed to run into the Northeast of Zelenogorsk, where we raided a small building for basic supplies. We also see a gas station at the Northern tip of it, and decide to quickly loot for supplies there too. However, this is where everything went wrong. My friend managed to attract two Zeds, who managed to knock him unconcious. Out of ammunition, I run into the gasstation to find an axe and a pile of bandages. This could not have been any more fortunate. I manage to kill of both Zeds, and bandage him up before he bleeds out. However. In the attack, he managed to break his leg. There could not have been anything worse happening in this situation - he was a first time player, so did not know the map. It was not as simple as mercy-killing him, and then finding him again. The hospitals were too far away. The only slim chance that was left was the supermarket, potentially holding a morphine injector. I decide to leave him here, with the axe for protection, and head to the supermarket. Alas, by the time I got there, it was clear a previous person looted this area, and no morphine was in existance there. I decided to head up to him, to do the grisly deed. I did not want it to come to this, but there were no other options. That was when the unthinkable happened. Two veterans, clad with Ghillies and geared up with Assault Weaponry, found my friend. Purely by chance, they were friendlies who didn't KOS. However, this was not known to me at the time. Fearing the worst, I ran up to him, in the hope that I could possible negotiate with these unexpected newcomers. However, one of them spots me, fires a warning shot, and yells at me to hit the dirt. I promptly do so. My axe was no match for the Rifle he was carrying. As this happened, multiple Zombies came to attack us. The camoflagued men made short work of them, but also shot me accidentaly in the process. I was bleeding heavily. At this point, one of them fixed my friends broken bone, and also gave him a blood transfusion. The other was trying his best to bandage me up in time, but I bled out just seconds before he was within reach. Against all expectations, they took my friend under there wing, protected him, taught him the ways of survival. They did this for a gruelling half hour, while I was making my way to them from Chernogorsk. Once I managed to meet up again with my friend, they escorted us to the NWAF, where we were allowed to keep any and all gear. I had never hoped to get this far with a new time player. In the end, one of the men hidden in Ghillie offered us the bus we used in the last section of the journey. We gladly accepted, and parted peacfully. A friendship built on trust was made. Alright, if you are still reading this, I'm impressed. Beans to you sir (or madam, as may be the case) :). As you may have gathered from the story above, if it weren't for the two men clad in ghillie, it would have been the end for my friend. If they arrived one minute later, he would have been dead, killed by my own hand (which, for the record, would have been rather awkward to explain). Rather, a tale of trust evolved. Thanks to these events, my friend is no longer skeptical of my like for Dayz. Much rather, he is hooked on this game. I honestly can't imagine a better first-time playthrough that what occured yesterday. So anyway, this brings me to a different point. Thank you, guys clad in Ghillie. We both owe you our lives. We will not forget what you did for us. You know who you are. And on a similar note, do any of you have any similar experiences to share? Are there any people that rescued you in the most dier situations? Please share it with the rest of us :) This is a topic of thanks. Who do you owe a thank-you too?

HD 7870 10-15 fps on all settings

Hi. As I promised, I tested this out with my new 7870 (Sapphire Flex Edition), and get very good FPS. i noticed the only setting that really affected performance appeared to be antialiasing (set to normal seems to work well, but drops to ~30FPS when set to 8). From this, I can conclude that the problem here is not the video card. Specs for reference: -Intel i5-3570k (3.4GHz) -Sapphire HD 7870 (Flex Edition) -8GB Ram -Running at 1400x1050 I am getting 60+ frames per second on normal/high settings (with antialiasing set to 'normal') except in some big cities. Hope this may be of use to the OP.

I see. In case you figure out where your problem lies, could you post it in this thread afterwards? If not, I'll try to figure this out when I get my 7870, and post the results.
