Implementing Skill Bars in SA

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

I would like to see a skill bar like;

screenshot00746.jpg

Which looks I know a lil bit WoWish, which is something I desire to see in SA =) Its ok if we wont have skills but being able to use "emotes" like we do in WoW would be great! Those skill-bars would be used only for RP purposes tho.. and also could be disabled like in WoW. =)

What are you guys thinking about it ? Being able to emote like "dancing" "saluting" "laughing" "teabaging" "crying" "rolling around" "highfiving" "gesturing" "blinking/winking" "hugging" "clapping" via a skil-bar and such would be good ? =))

Thanks

Regards

This pretty much goes against everything Rocket wants. His end-goal would be to have no HUD at all athough that may not be achievable so something like this is VERY unlikely.

I personally don't want to see my screen littered with loads of rubbish. As you say it looks like other MMO's. People like DayZ because it's trying to be different.

The way I see it, every action available to players should at least potentially serve a purpose.

Most "emotes" don't have any value beyond messing around. Only a certain few, such as waving, pointing maybe a handshake or something like that, would be useful in DayZ.

As for HUD, bars and on-screen menus. I'm not keen at all.

That pic looks like a perfect example of how bad a GUI can be.

I would like to do these emotes in this order right now

1. Crying

2. laughing

3. Crying

then teabagging for last.

Yeh, I have to agree. That GUI looks like a mess TBH.

I've got nothing against emotes, but only necessary ones. Dancing, high-fiving, blowing kisses ect, should be kept to the games where they're suited, not DayZ.

Thats why I wrote it would only be used for RP purpose and also could be enabled/disabled manually :P

And yeh, just found that pic on google in 1 sec... Only for those who have never seen a HUD like that :)

You don't need a screen full of 300000000 icons for roleplay, in fact it get's in the way by constantly reminding you you're just playing a game. To enjoy a roll you need to be immersed in the game, a GUI like that doesn't help, it's just bad design.

WOW has been around for years and it looks like they've just kept adding to it without thinking about the end result or if that stuff is even needed. It's lazy game design. Design is as much about working out what you don't need as what you do.

Eh..?

This is possibly the WORST thing that could happen and the complete opposite of what they're working towards.

Terrible looking UI anyway, tut tut.

Rocket is thinking about something "like" this. But no HUD and gamey stuff like that. You wont get any *ding* "You have leveled up! You can now do X/Y!" It will be more subtle. Like after fixing many many different car parts you might be able to do it better/faster or fine tune car parts. This is later in development though. Also this is second hand info so it may not be exactly like what I say or what the guy says.

I hate to promote streamers and the like but this guy got some time alone with Rocket and got a load of Questions in.

http://el.twitch.tv/...iel/b/393773349 and skip to 2:07:30 an watch from that point. Or 2:09:25 for the exact Question. Question ends at 2:14:00 There's tons of goodies in there although its second hand and not very reliable as to its accurateness.

Like you said in the beginning of your post of being able to slowly fix up vehicles a little bit faster then usual.

Nothing would pop up and say 'Congratulations! You can fix cars faster."

Skill bars would be a terrible add-on to DayZ it would practically make some of the serious-type gamers leave and bring in the League of Legends, WoW type.

Fixed. :P

Having "skills" would also make you value your character more and not just your gear. But no skill bars and *ding*s please.

PS Bacchus I thought you where Pvt Evans for a sec. :P
