dashx73 (DayZ) 168 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) I have arma 2 combined operations installed with day, everything is fine, but I run my hard drive is very small and I would like to make some more space.Arma takes up like 31 gigs or so and I know that Dayz doesn't require all those files to play it. I don't really care about playing arma anymore so i wanted to just delete anything that is not needed to play dayZ. I also wanted to have it so I can just click a single icon "dayz mod" and have it automatically connect to my favorite server. totally bypassing all the arma stuff and stripping it really down to bare bones files needed to play dayz.I know the standalone is out soon and I am excited, but I really want to create a sort of standalone of the mod as well, and since arma 3 i don't really play arma 2 anymore so i just wanted to make some more room on my hd by getting rid of everything not needed. Can you help me to understand what files are safe to delete so I don't ruin the game.or better just what exact files are needed and I will just delete everything else.thank you Edited April 26, 2013 by dashx73
Inception. 9443 Posted April 26, 2013 You need every file for OA to play, since DayZ runs off the OA engine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
-Gews- 7443 Posted April 26, 2013 Won't servers kick you for missing files? I don't know what Battleye would do.Not a good idea to mess with basic parts of the game you're trying to play...

SmashT 10907 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) You can probably replace your ArmA 2 files (8gb) with ArmA 2:Free files (2gb)As a result you will have much lower quality/resolution graphics though. Edited April 26, 2013 by smasht_AU
dashx73 (DayZ) 168 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) the smaller the file size the better. So now I delete arma 2 and install arma free, but I heard that dayz just uses only the map and textures from arma 2, so I could delete everything that isn't the map and textures, and still keep quality while minimizing file size..I can look at all the mod files individually and see what files they point to and then just delete everything, but I figured since you guys made the mod you would know the exact files needed so this don't have to be a week long trial and error process.and the point is "Im not messing with the basic files of the game" battleye will be fine. I'm sure battleye doesn't detect that the single player files are missing, when you are playing online.. that would be silly.Im going to start making a list of files that are safe to delete. or try running the game and see what files are in use and then delete the ones that arnt. dashx73 (DayZ) 168 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) . this is something that the mod developers should do, or pay someone to do, or even make an agreement with arma to release a version like this, and then simply require to enter a cd even the way they should release the mod from the website.either way Im going to create a standalone bysimply deleting files not needed to create a standalone making one icon to launch the game, and automatically launch into a specific server that is closely monitored by mature individuals that doesn't have hackers.....its ignorant to require players to install 31 gigs to play a game that takes about 4 Edited April 26, 2013 by dashx73
leviski 2152 Posted April 26, 2013 Yea I don't know if anyone said something like this yetbut you can technically play Dayz with OA and the trial version of ARMA2 so In theory yes you could cut some stuff out.
dashx73 (DayZ) 168 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) well if you can technically play dayz with OA and the trail version then you can technically play dayz with only the files required to run it or similar, aka the hackers modifying required files and still being able to play.. so I know if i delete some files not in use I will also still be able to play Edited April 26, 2013 by dashx73
SmashT 10907 Posted April 26, 2013 its ignorant to require players to install 31 gigs to play a game that takes about 4Your playing a free mod of another game, they are already making a standalone game that won't require ArmA as you are well aware.
dashx73 (DayZ) 168 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) not to be off topic, but I need people who actually understand how mods work, specifically someone who understands how to view files and file folders, how to explore directories, registries and how to edit or delete files of various types. Even better someone that understands what files are in use while dayz is running. The files checked by battleye, and thus creating a standalone. The biggest problem with dayz is most people who play mods are barely able to install one to begin with.
