gesundheitk 420 Posted April 20, 2013 Call me crazy, but I think the best way to tackle the undead is with less loud guns. I see everyone picking out these rifles that are probably going to give away a position quicker than an asshole that doesn't want to be on your paintball team so he shoots away all his ammunition and keeps yelling "I'm out, I don't want to play" (Yes, this actually happened to me; the little prick). Anyways, maybe something more quiet should be the solution?

no lies 0 Posted April 20, 2013 Is it really? I'd have thought/hoped the 5.56 or .30-06 (or some other hunting round) would be the most common. Thanks for the tidbit :)And like I said: This isn't a realistic list..223 and 5.56 are basically the same ammo. The only real worry would be what barrel your gun is chambered for... A 5.56 barrel can shoot .223 ammo just fine, but there is potential for issues if you're trying to fire 5.56 ammo from a .223 chambered barrel. I can't remember the exact reason, but I think it has something to do with possible differences in how far the bullet is seated in the different cartridges which can lead to over-pressurization in the chamber. Thanks for the tidbit :)And like I said: This isn't a realistic list.Well I know that the 5.56 can fire a .223 round as they are very similar. The neck is a bit bigger on the 5.56 than a .223, and can accept them, but the freebore length is different, and a 5.56 shoots with a higher pressure and Feet per second than a .223.And I would say that the .243 or a 30-06 is the most popular caliber for any hunting rifle you will see.EDIT: Didn't realize someone said this already. But on topic, I would have my guns as follows:Mosin-Nagant with my PU 4x scope.Ruger 10/22 Target or a Mini-14Glock 22And melee would be the Mosin-Nagant, held like a baseball bat. Beanbag Brad 5 Posted April 20, 2013 Not sure why people are choosing rifles either (unless for counter banditry.) But assuming its a zombie apocalypse only, rifles make way too much noise and are generally useless indoors(cqc) even carbine variants would be difficult to use."Just use a silencer" argument is invalid as they can limit the round types you can use the gun, if you use a silencer and a regular round its still going to make a fkn loud crack of the projectile reaching supersonic speeds. "OK just use subsonic then" - good luck finding them and not to mention their penetration and velocity are appalling. You couldn't fire one accurately past 100m (and that's pushing it) let alone penetrate!!!Your best bet would be a crossbow or bow (recoverable ammo and extremely quite) and if you needed a gun an SMG, HK or mp5. I'd go mp5 due to the commonness of 9mm rounds.Theres no point carrying long range weapons as zombies aren't a threat!

For fun? I don't see the poi t in wasting ammunition and attracting attention by using loud rounds at long range. Sy you need to get in to a shop, you scout it from afar. See there's a few zombies, I'd still take the back entrance and only kill what's necessary. You could take both, hunting rifle and an SMG and just ditch your rifle/other heavy supplies before you make your run.Bullpup isn't really a counter argument. Even a Steyr with its regular barrel would be too long to use indoors. (Better off with a sidearm actually!) Sure you could use a carbine variant, but even those aren't much shorter than an m4.The argument for the AK is great, considering you can make the barrel, pin and most internals with basic household goods makes it a suitable weapon!! Though noisy and a bit inaccurate you get the reliability!Sorry for my typing its on a phone so I CBF fixing it.

applejaxc 2500 Posted April 22, 2013 Well colekern I kind of dislike the M4 mainly because of its lack of range and lack of a buttstock to smash with. That is why I go Kalashnikov.Do you know what an M4 is?
