killzone_kid 51 Posted April 18, 2013 looks like unanimous nay.But what about if you are taking hit, should you know what direction it comes from?
BwobBwub 660 Posted April 18, 2013 Nay, effects such as unconsciousness, blood and groans should be the way to tell if you hit someone.
entspeak 374 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) No on hit markers from me, too. But, in the video immediately above... isn't that just another hit marker for hitting the enemy with the grenade and doesn't indicate the direction from which you were hit by the grenade?I wish DayZ would add back in the blood spatter on screen from Arma 2, then that could be set up to give a general idea of the direction from which you were hit. Which is something that, realistically you'd get a sense of, in my opinion - if you're shot, the impact would give you a general idea of direction. Having a precise indicator, would not be realistic, however. Edited April 18, 2013 by entspeak
killzone_kid 51 Posted April 18, 2013 Red is from where you got hit, X if you hit someone
Moth (DayZ) 10 Posted April 18, 2013 Well, there are no hitmarkers in real life.
Skat3rat 1633 Posted April 18, 2013 Nope. We already have nametags which I don't like. Hitmarkers should stick with fast pace FPS like COD and Battlefield. Not realistic military simulators.
entspeak 374 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) Red is from where you got hit, X if you hit someoneOh, okay. I see that now. I had to move through the video slowly to see what you were talking about - with the blood, there's a lot of red on the screen, you're facing straight ahead and the explosion moves your view up, so... the indicator doesn't jump out.I mean, I'd rather it be an adjustment in the blood spatter on the screen to give a general idea of direction - to get away from a more precise HUD-like indicator, but the idea of a hitmarker for that doesn't bother me. -Gews- 7443 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) It kind of takes the fun away, too."Boom" Did I hit him? vs "BoomSHINYXMARKSTHESPOTIHITHIM"I don't understand why people would want them. In other games hits are marked by blood or other less "arcadey" means. It works fine. I usually know if I hit someone in DayZ because I'll see blood where the bullet impacts. Why would you want to put a big shiny X over the top of that? It's clear enough... I just don't see the appeal of these in any way whatsoever. It makes no sense to me, I can't wrap my head around it, kinda like the Privacy Scarf. I don't know why anyone would want one of those, either. p4triot 207 Posted April 19, 2013 Hitmarkers for when hitting someone? NOT AT ALLHitmarkers when being hit? Actually, I consider this a must, I don't have sense of touch or pain ingame, so something else to compensate the lack of this needs to be add. If im being hit from my right side, I should know...well how can you explain that vast majority of servers have nametags (which is worse) crosshairs and even 3rd view. Realism it is not. This is why nametags distance and crosshairs should be deleted. 3rd person is another story though, as isn't actually real to se only through a 24'' window fov in front of you. IRL if you stand next to me I would notice you, ingame in 1st person I wouldn't.So isn't that unrealistic.P.D: about nametags, as the game cannot reproduce 7billion different faces, they're should be there, but just forthe name, only showing on short range, and only w/o cover... If not, I rather them to be completely removed.I liked how the character moved when the bullet hit him. I think a visual feedback of the body being hit would be enough.I don't know if the new ragdoll system will allow individual bodyparts to be pushed back, but that probably the best aid to see wether you hit or not.But considering other aids, "NO GUI" is the actual trend. So everything that is displayed on the screen, that you would not see in real life, should not be displayed on the screen.I would like this.About the "NO GUI". Not so true... IRL you have 5 senses, ingame you have one and a half only. One for sound, half for view (as IRL you would have almost 180º sense of view, ingame you don't). So, precisely for realism purposes, some HUD is a must.
taco241 393 Posted April 19, 2013 Yeah p4triot makes some good points.Let's not go entirely realism crazy with no HUD. Until I have a PC that connects to my body stimulating all my senses, we need visual feedback.I also vote NO to hit markers (and even death messages), but vote a strong maybe to a hit direction indicator that shows the general area of INCCOMING shots. For anyone without a decent sound card plus an expensive headset, you'll have no idea where shots are coming from.I often end up dancing in circles trying to find an attacker before finally getting killed. That's not a realism maker, that's a realism breaker.

ponc 100 Posted April 19, 2013 WTF IS THE POINT OF HITMARKERS???is this generation really THAT stupid?what an annoying feature!and NO please NO having some stupid read arrow showing me from which direction i got shot.what i really HATE about modern games is all that fancy colorfull blingblingbling on the screen.ugly as hell. Pandema 352 Posted April 19, 2013 Nay, good sir, nay!Hit markers are something we definitely DO NOT NEED. Its bad enough that alot of servers run name tags so you can just scroll and check an entire area for players and get a range....
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted April 20, 2013 Hitmarkers when being hit? Actually, I consider this a must, I don't have sense of touch or pain ingame, so something else to compensate the lack of this needs to be add. If im being hit from my right side, I should know...How many times have you been shot in real life? What if the bullet passes clean through, is it easy to tell which direction those holes were made from? Also, the shock and trauma of actually being shot would probably add to the confusion. Add on to that the injury to a part of your body.I'm not saying there's no way someone is going to know which direction they're being shot from, BUT I don't think it should be as easy as observing a little red indicator on your screen. That little indicator can't asses the situation and determine if it's realistic, so it's inevitably going to be reporting positions in unrealistic situations. So no, indicators have no place in DayZ or any half way realistic game or simulator. There is already enough information to determine where you're being shot from without the game telling you.
