Teenagers from Finland made me feel old

Recommended Posts

Dark Star. 30 minute load time. Needed to be reloaded after losing a life (or maybe that's where my 'transformer' started to overheat).

Funny how memory deceives us with size of things, but then in my class it was war between commodore and spectrum owners.

Generally ended by commodore being granted 'best graphics' (lol) and spectrum best 'gameplay'.

'Way of the exploding fist' and my first ever experience of 'Gauntlet'. Great days...because we didn't know any better.

I don't see a problem with old age and gaming. You probably started playing from the first days you got Atari/NES or any old gen console and got caught into it.

Once a gamer always a gamer, that's what I would say.

Gauntlet was epic. IK Karate is one of the ones that sticks on my head for some reason, I think that was on the Amiga though.

Remember that loading sound when you put the tape in? (Yes Nousername, we had to load games with tapes and it took fekkin ages).

BRRrrrrrrrrrrr....BIP!Bererrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...BIIP! PIUGP(UGP(UGHPUI(HP{(U*GP*YWPD*U(GWTPD*GWDOIYGAUOYXGux*horrendus screaming noise.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlsDmALohQQ

Seriosly, look at the shit we had to put up with. This was on a 128K which was pretty advanced at the time too. No wonder DayZ excites us.

Kids, sit through this loading sequence and then you'll know why us older folk sometimes think some of you sound a tad entitled when a game has a bug or takes 30 secs too long to join a server.

When I meet people ingame who sound very young I often get asked how old I am...well 36...A few minutes later I dont hear anything again from them.

Maybe they don't want to play with people who are as old as their own parents could be.

Patience is a thing most of the youngsters haven't learned...

When you had to rewind your Commodore Datasette 3 times because a game wasn't loaded properly

you learned how to be patient.

Or you could make yourself a butter-bread and watch an episode of Captain Future until a game was loaded.

34 here and feel and act half my age (and sort of look it lol) but meh I've played DayZ with younger people and have never had any issues, everyones usually cool :). Btw I've had most computers and consoles too, the rubber keyed Speccy was my first before graduating to the 128k then the C64 but nothing compared to the Amiga and I still think it IS the best games system yet.

Btw feel free to join our server (link in sig). It's Panthera and we have a group of regulars of mixed ages :)

By saying 'crikey' he's revealing our age. Used to find it a lot in England. Last refuge probably the Beano lol

I remember it from Dangermouse, the top 80-90s Cosgrove Hall animated classic. Dangermouse' sidekick Penfold was in the habit of saying "crikey, DM!" whenever shit went down. In fact here's a t-shirt with a giant CRIKEY on it. Not only was Dangermouse amazing, he was fantastic as well; when it came to strength, speed, and general competence he was a veritable powerhouse. The greatest in fact. So, nothing is forgotten. Nothing is ever forgotten.

Er, that was from Robin of Sherwood, the sissy version of the Robin Hood tale from the 1980s (again). It pains me to think that the 1980s are are far-away nowadays as the 1950s were in the 1980s.

But, yeah, whenever someone shoots at you in DayZ, call them an accursed mountebank. Get on the blower and say "desist, you damnable recidivist". What is this voodoo ague that drives men to perform the most fiendishly pernicious acts in defiance of all reason?

Was checking a Panthera sever yesterday. Met some nice guys from Finland. I'm late 30s age-wise and they were teenagers.

Made me feel old but they were pretty cool. One of them did shoot me dead (by accident, sort of). I even continued chatting on Steam for a while after we finished. Last message was that one of them had to go to bed for school the next day.

I usually play lone-wolf so it's not a common occurrence for me to meet nice guys in DayZ.

Must admit I feel a bit weird playing with ppl half my age. I'm not an old man dammit, I'm younger than Giggs, but really, am I too old to be playing games?

I hate old players, it's impossible to make a getaway when you have to lift them into the back of the pickup.....

You are as old as you feel. I'm 25 and still playing games. The older gamers have more wisdom and cooler to play with and more trustworthy, in most cases ^^.

I wonder, because we're the first generation of gamers, so far there's been no demand for PC gaming accessories aimed at old-people. In the future I'm gonna need a keyboard with massive WASD keys.

Maybe some special "gaming gloves" too.

Thats actually my current scope of research. Supporting consumer product design to allow for the development of inclusive products. However our current reference products have been mobile phones and washing machines and the like so far, i think it will take some time until we get funding for developing inclusive gaming controllers :x

My "ex mother in law" (is that even the correct term?) still plays games at the age of 63. She's just finished Far Cry 3 and put about 400hrs into Skyrim. We call her our RPG = Roll Playing Grandma.

Orlok, seen you playing Red Orchestra 2, what servers you play on?

I'm 27 and people online make me feel too old. You're not too old to play games. I never understood my father's favorite saying til I was the "old" guy in the server. "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill" which goes a long way in DayZ.

At 20 i'm the youngest person in my group of friends on Vent. The oldest is 36 and the average is 24. Honestly I hope that when I'm 30,40 and so forth I still have the time to sit down and play a game for a few hours.

I personally think its fantastic when older players come into the servers they are generally more fun to talk to then the usual rabble.

And also, if GOD is a fetus, then i am still waiting for my ticket up there somewhere in space and time... Oh god.
