Are leaderboards REALLY needed in a survival game at all? Its a personal achievement, fuck having a list saying 'ohh i hid in a bush for 2 weeks so i iz teh best pl4yer!'

All leaderboards do is encourage underhand players to cheat their way to the top of them. Bin them now.

make it personelle profiles other users cant look up stats without haveing your approval but you can send the stats this would avoid players tryin to up there KD ratio type of playing as it would be more of a badge to show then hey look at my kill count on this site

The same kiddies exploiting and scripting see it as a 'hall of fame' and WILL do everything they can to get on the top. Now there'd be nothing wrong with a leaderboard is gamers had honour and sportsmanship, but they don't, they really don't.

Without fairplay, leaderboards are pointless.

Why is there a leaderboard in this game? What purpose could that possibly serve except to encourage the worst in people who would gladly ruin the game for everyone just for some imaginary status?

IMO it will quickly become a hall of shame as 99% of the people on there within a week will no longer be players just people exploiting/hiding/botting/ALT F4ing there way to the "top".

I agree with this thread. I've already heard people starting to get obsessed with trying to top that leaderboard by camping with snipers. Granted they'd do it normally, but I feel like this just gives them more incentive. Just look what KDR did to the CoD community.

Anyways a bandit wont shoot you to get +1 on the scoreboard, he'll shoot you if he sees you.

Sure I'm a carebear myself, but if there weren't any bandits to kill us, DayZ wouldn't be very fun in the long run.

Its just there, as an added bonus, without it, there is no "Goal" or "Reason" for some people.

You start, you scavenge, you survive, you gear up, you're done, no one knows, no point to everything you did, the leaderboards can add that in.

I get that it can drive up spawn camping and such but I dont think you will see it much.

There could be methods around this though, example killing someone who is not a Bandit doesnt count in kill so they wont get up. Killing Bandits is good, serve justice!

They're fun stats, ya'll getting really edgy about nothing really...

A bandit or someone who is willing to just kill people for the sake of it is not going to do it even more or begin doing it because of a leaderboard.

With or without it people will kill each other. I kill pretty much anyone I see as I trust no one! Leaderboard or not.

A Leaderboard is not part of essence of the Mod, really, all that a player needs to know is how long they have survived, period.

Get rid of zed/player/bandits kills, sure. Reduce the clutter on the Debug menu as much as possible.

Add those stats to the You Are Dead screen, maybe (You Are Dead! This life you've killed x Zombies, and killed x players, y of which were Bandits).

Oh they should be 'bandits' for sure. And your right, you ain't getting killed cos your a mark on the board, your getting killed just because someone holding a gun.

Now this isn't directed at you, but people need to STFU about bandits. They don't really exist, theres just survivors making harsh choices and people that like to hunt hairless apes. The PK'ers aren't even 'bandits' and every survivor kills.

I know I'm going down with this comment but when I saw leaderboards my top goal has been getting to top 20!

I luckily got sniper rifle. Now I just shoot everyone I see! I don't shoot gunless people. They have just started and it would be too cruel. I shoot everyone with gun! Even with makarov! Top 20 HERE I COME! Oh I don't camp spawns,cherno or elektro.

Now that you've mentioned it, I kinda find it weird too. We all know how many Cod kiddies there are out there, now they don't only kill for loot but for prestige too. Pared with the "no starting gun" it is actually the most valid point I've heard so far. I can see bandits now just camping the shore killing survivors because they want to get on the leader boards. Kinda depressing actually, keeping numbers is fine but actually having leader boards with peoples names on it is strange.

Influencing the behavior of players in such a negative way outside of the game is something I don't support.

You need a friends leaderboard, not a global leader board. The global leader board is only for stroking the e-peens of a few top players (sometimes lucky, sometimes exploiters).

You want to know how you fared among your friends.
