Dat blue Sky! Rocket, PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

So i nearly love everything about the new SA, except one thing:

the "new" sky.

It is extremely blue. It kind of looks cartoonish, or more "game" like. Like TES:Oblivion colors. plastic game world.

Dayz(Mod) has kind of a more realistic color scheme. although not 100% correct, it still gave a better realism feeling. better then most other games.

I'm a painter and also do a lot of outdoor painting studies. When you want to paint a realistic picture, you don't just take pure "blue" for the sky, and pure "green" for the grass. maybe in elementary school you would do that. you shift colors a lot more to the white/grey spectrum then they actually look. also, although somedays the sky is really blue, it gets DEsaturated and whiter/brighter closer to the horizont, and more saturated the more you look upwards. also there is most of the time some dust or steam in the air, taking away a lot of the blue.

full blue days are rare days. especially for a "russian" climate zone.

It really needs to be a)less saturated (more into the grey spectrum than in the full saturated b)brighter c)whiter d)more occasional clouds n stuff.

here are some comparisation screens:

also here is a nice post on that topic: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/127518-dayz-developer-blog-8th-march/#entry1227874

thank you for creating the best game ever and showing those game company "market analysis" idiots where they can put their analysis to! ;)

Did it occur to you that the game is in development? and that on all the images you've posted, except for the ones in that other topic its sunny vs. cloudy?

Nor do you know anything about the ingame time of the day the screenie was taken in and under what circumstances .

So my suggestion... Sit back and relax, takes a while till the SA arrives and we'll see by then how it has turned out.

Not to mention right now Rocket is at Mount Everest at the moment and wont be returning to the help the rest of the devs until some time in June so trying to tell him something on the forums right now is pointless

A not to mention they will be using volumetric clouds from Arma III in the SA.

So half the time you might not even see the sky :)

But you are right, some of the pictures are "to blue".

Im confident smaller "details" like that is not configured properly yet tbh.

Well, that's all ok but I have on my desktop a screeny of dark rumbling low level storm threatening clouds that make you wish you were indoors out of the cold and safe from harm.

So don't worry too much about blue skys.

You would wonder how blue the real life sky can be. Nothing in unrealistic in the shots.

Would only be unrealistic if its static Blue all day every day tbh :)

Dont mind some days with clear blue skies, but deff not everyday hehe.

Lol, no pics but I can confirm the clouds look amazing and they get really oppressive when it starts to get dark and stormy looking, way better than anything we have at the moment, very atmospheric That's all you're getting from me though :)

Lol, no not teasing. I'd love to make a massive post explaining why I think the SA will be awesome but they'll kick me out of testing and Rocket won't let me share baths with him anymore so I won't risk it. TBH most of the details have been covered in devblogs but there's the little details (like the clouds ect) that make a big difference that it's hard to get a feel for by watching the blogs, especially as the blog vids are made with many of the new things turned off and the annoying PPE turned on.

You are right and ive got more then 150h clocked in Arma III already XD Love the clud system.

But thats not what the subject is about, its the "blueness" behind the clouds :)

Well on topic, yes, I think the saturation level of the blueness is too much at times although on a clear sunny day it looks great. They still have much to work on (including a weather system unique to DayZ) so I'd expect that to be on their list of things to do.
