  1. 1. What do you perfer. The M40A3 or SVD?

    • SVD. Semi-auto rifles are better.

    • M40A3. Bolt action rifles tickle my fancy

    • Neither. I don't like a gun matching my ghillie suit.

    • I don't even snipe at all.

    • Good sir, I rather perfer the CZ550. The authentic sniper rifle seems to do the trick against the undead fiends!

So this is just a general discussion topic on what is a better Camouflage rifle. The semi-automatic Russian SVD Dragunov or the Bolt-action American M40A3. This thread is sniper based so anybody who prefers an assault rifle, Shotgun, Handgun, Crossbow, (Sub) Machine gun or any other weapon would not really pay interest to this topic.

This topic is entirely opinion/statistic based. You may enter comments but its highly recommended that you do the poll.

In my personal opinion I would prefer the Either but if I had a choice I would stick to the SVD because of it's inbuilt range finder. And I have fetish for Russian weapons

Also you must have used the weapon to make the vote count. You can't say "I like the SVD although I have only ever used the M40A3".

SVD. Has it's own integrated zeroing in the scope. I like it overall a lot more.

However if I had to choose between them in-game, the m40 for the common ammo.

^^^^^^^ common ammo, and the m40 has the mildots, that, if you know how to use they are very reliable.

I prefer the SVD for practical uses, I play solo and wander around the map, and I need a rifle which is also good at those unexpected close and medium range encounters. The SVD works great in any reasonable range engagement up to about 700m - the only time you'd really need more magnification and accuracy is if you're camping...

Can't stand the SVD scope-crosshairs. The M40A3's sights are where it's at!

An SVD is a sexy rifle on its own, but god damn it I have an unbearable thing for the bolt-action mechanism in rifles.

I like bolt action. But then I have never touched a SVD. I want to use that range scope!!! So m40 until I find me a SVD.

M40A3 all the way. I like the SVD ranging system, but by now I have pretty much gotten within about 50 meters to eyeballing distances. I love the mil dot systems, so I would take the M40A3 over SVD. I think the SVD looks cooler though :P

If I knew how to use the SVD sights then I would choose the SVD. But since I'm too lazy to learn how to use it, I have to choose the M40. I honestly think that people who snipe with the SVD are a thousand times better than those who use AS50s and M107s. A gun that doesn't have zeroing takes skill to use at long distances.

The sights on the SVD are actually pretty easy to use, you just have to watch one vid or read on how to use them

I prefer non spam-able rifles unless its a Mk-17 sniper.

So I'd stick with the M40A3 considering its just an M24 with the covering, so just basically your comparing an M24 with an svd.

Plus as stated above I like the common ammo for it.

The SVD.

Integrated rangfinder and a reasonable scope make it the top sniper for me. The mildots and common ammo for the M40 are nice, but the scope magnification seems a bit obnoxious to me, making it less useful as some ranges.

M40A3

Cool looking gun

Mildots (cant stand the SVD scope)

Zeroing

Also don't really care bout the built in rangefinder as i changed my FoV so it no longer works, and i already have a pair of RFs

M40? Pffft. Atleast put M24 if you want a good bolt action rifle. Anyways, SVD wins if I could choose. Bigger round and semi-auto, what could be better?

First off in they fire the same 7.62 round, and if you read my post above you would know that the m40a3 is just an m24 with the covering. Edited by burritoman259

Actually, the SVD is chambered for the 7.62x54R whereas the M40 is chambered for 7.62x51mm - a cartridge that is a fully three millimeters shorter.

In game I often carry an SVD backed up by an MP5SD or in the case of Celle, a machine pistol such as the Beretta 93R. I prefer the SVD, with camo or not, for the PSO optic, which is quite good in close quarters combat for reactive/reflex snap shots. In theory I also like the M24/M40, but it is a situation specific weapon, with a shorter range and much lower rate of fire. Of course, the SVD cannot be used with night vision, unless you add the SVD with night vision scope to your server loot table. On that note, that weapon (SVD/night scope) is amazing in its own right with night vision capability and open sights for day/point plank combat.

Nope. M40 and M24 are completely different rifles.

Do some searching on the internet sometime.

Fair enough i'm just used to seeing it's ammo in the 7.62 crates you find in barracks, besides they do close to the same damage, but I see your point.

Different rifles? dude in game they are practically the same I'm not talking about real life i'm talking about arma.

Go into armory put down a random character and a us special weapons box you will see an M24 and an M40A3, there is no denying they are basically the same, same zeroing range, same ammo, just a different covering.

Ha, I spit on you seaweed hill campers! You cowards rely on fancy gimmicks and overpowered rifles, whilst us real men headshot you at 800 meters with a CZ550. Anything below that and the AKM is the boss of all that is mid range.
