Game thinks I'm running an illegal copy!

Recommended Posts

I'm with a friend at my house right now, we're trying to play Day Z together on a server. But when we both try to join the same server, it doesn't work. What happens is that one of us can join just fine, but when the other one tries to join, it kicks computer 2 from the server immediately. The weirdest thing, though, is that whenever computer 2 tries to join, a message on the server appears saying "Remember: Illegal copies may degrade" WTF?! We both have legal copies of ArmA II Complete Collection on Steam! What's going on? We're both using Play WithSIX to run the mod.

Ive seen that message several times on numerous servers. Dont worry about it.

Now the question is: are you using the SAME CD KEY to try and join the SAME SERVER?

This is the thing, neither ArmA II or ArmA II Operation Arrowhead asked me for the serial key. Could this be the reason?

The "Illegal copies may degrade" is a joke referring to spawned in items, I think.

BattlEye broadcasts red messages on the server at regular intervals. That is one of those messages.

It means nothing, it's completely automated to happen after a certain period of time on all servers.

Edit; They're basically saying "Hey, your pirated copy might be out-of-date one day. You should probably buy our shit (read: stuff) if you like it, because otherwise you won't be able to keep up."

No, pirated copies actually do degrade with the copy protection built in to ArmA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FADE

That is most likely unrelated to the the OP's issue though. (providing the games aren't pirated), it's just an automated message everyone gets.

- Make sure you are running two different copies of the game, you can check by typing "#BEClient GUID" in-game, they should both be different.

- If your GUID's are the same then run each copy of the game as admin so the CD Key updates in the registry to the one on that copy. You need separate accounts/copies of the game otherwise this won't work as you will still be using the same key.

- If they are different then it's likely an issue with NAT translation, to get around this add " -port=2350" to one of the computers ArmA/OA shortcuts. The number doesn't really matter, just as long as it's different from the other computers which will use 2302, 2304, 2305 by default. http://community.bis...rtup_Parameters
