JakeFromStateFarm. 2 Posted March 28, 2013 Well first off I'm new here, (I know I know) and I'm sure you guys don't wanna see ANOTHER Mac&DayZ thread,but I'm aware you can boot camp and run the dayZ mod, but I'm curious to know how smooth and what kinda performance I would get if I were to go this route, what specs would my Mac need in order to run nice and a smooth with the best possible results (for a Mac) any help is greatly appreciated! terminal_boy 860 Posted March 28, 2013 Build yourself a pimped out PC unless you're considering a fully spec'd out Mac Pro with the new (to Mac) AMD 7950.That Mac Pro would cost you over $4,000 and you'd still be able to build a PC which would wipe the floor with it for under $1000. spinager 152 Posted March 28, 2013 What Mac are you looking at? Ive seen videos with HD4000 running Arma 2 on some low-normal settings. As long as the CPU is up to par then you should be okay. Some Macs come with NVIDIA so those may do better than the HD4000. Currently, I can run Arma 3 using HD4000 using bootcamp and does a decent job. Pretty smooth but not so good looking graphics. You can bump the graphics up and lose a bit of smoothness but still playable with nicer graphics. Arma 3 was running with an i7. You can look at videos on youtube. As this has a Geforce (Radeon 6490M) in addition to the onboard-graphics, I can play DayZ on low-medium graphics. If you have a newer generation macbook Pro (retina f.e.) that also has an additional graphics card, you will be able to play on higher graphics. If you have your onboard-graphics only, you will NOT be able to play DayZ on your mac. (macbook (not pro) and iMac tend to have that problem)But if you buy a new device for gaming, you can get a better gaming-experience with a PC for 1000$ than you would get out of a Mac for 2000$, just because Macs are not made for gaming, lacking the graphics to boost up your game.But if it's just about playing the game on your mac. I have currently Anno 2070, Diablo 3, Tombraider (new one), Arma II with dayz and arma III alpha installed, all playable on my 2 year old macbook pro (with ram and HDD upgrade tough. always switch your 5400RPM harddisk from your macbook with either a very fast 7200rpm or a solid state, otherwise forget gaming) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Addtionally after a few hours of play the iMac is going to get hot and the lag is really going to showup so you will need to log off for a bit and let it cool down.good luck Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

They're good for media applications and truth be told I can't stop drooling every time I see one of their monitors doing it's demo thing on a shop floor. Gaming? No. //A bit off topic, but years ago I built a gaming PC, I think it was a Pentium 266mhz or something, when a colleague bought a Mac. Naturally we had the PC vs Mac debate which resulted in him asking "name one thing your PC can do that my Mac can't".
