ShokeR (DayZ) 29 Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) Hey everyone. In my opinion the biggest problem of dayz there is no balance between PVP and PVE.Before I start to explain I am sorry for my poor english.PVP = Player versus PlayerPVE = Player versus Environment (Player versus Zombies).PVP - High risk and high reward.PVE - Small risk and small reward (or even no risk and no reward).Let me explain:In PVP It's pretty obvious there is high risk and high reward, in 1vs1 scenario you risk yourself by getting killed, but there is also a reward and you can get your opponent items. In PVE , there is almost no risk killing zombies and when you kill them there is no reward, so why should I kill them? There is no reason for killing zombies, even If you want to loot a town you can just run from the zombies move from house to house quickly looting is the key to do that. Now we need to balance between the two.PVP is high risk and high reward and should stay like that.PVE should be more risky and give you more reward. This can be done by some ways.First zombies need to be much more harder to deal with , so Improving the AI , let zombies run indoor , increase thier damage, etc , this will raise the risk fighting zombies.About the reward, If we increase the risk of the zombies we need to risk the reward aswell. For exmaple, you enter a small town to gather some food and water and there is a supermarket, instend of loot run the supermarket you need to kill or sneak behind the zombies in order to loot the supermarket, you can't just loot run it because now zombies run indoor and do more damage. So after you killed some of the zombies you now can enter the supermarket and loot it safely from zombies and get your reward.ok that's all I wanted to explain.I hope you get my point , if you have suggetion about how to balance PVP and PVE , or you just don't agree with me please post. What I am also trying to say is I don't care about new features like radio , dogs ,underground bases and things like that.I just want the game to be fun and balanced all around.Because when I play Dayz I feel I can't play like I want to and I must shoot everyone I see or they will shoot me (unless they don't see me ).Also I think this is why most of the people shooting on sight because PVE is boring with no risk or reward. Thanks for reading! -Gews- 7443 Posted March 27, 2013 I think PvE should be high-risk, the game is about zombies but no one with the least bit of skill is ever killed by them.Running zombies should be terrifying!Sneaking and stealth should be rewarded - that, and anti-Z teamwork. Go in by yourself and try to Rambo it? Face a large chance of dying.
JackPotDayz 26 Posted March 27, 2013 The detection radius around zombies is actually quite unpredictable in DayZ. Even while crawling and trying to remain hidden, zombies are still able to aggro on you from behind a wall. WarZ although a terrible game managed to get a little closer to an acceptable detection rhythm. I hope this is something that standalone addresses.O'Neil

DemonGroover 8836 Posted March 27, 2013 The big hope for SA is that zombies can no longer be blatantly ignored, they chase better and more importantly don't hit an invisible wall and slow to a walk indoors. I reckon these factors alone will change the way people play the SA. Add many more zombies onto the server (possibly 1000's) and you have zombies suddenly becoming a major issue. So as far as PvP goes you may have to think "Do i want to shoot that guy if doing so brings a whole world of hurt down on me?", "Is it worth killing an unarmed new spawn?"PvP will always be there (and we definitely need it, can you imagine the game if the only threat were zombies - boring!) but i really think the PvE aspects are going to be greatly increased.
_Anubis_ (DayZ) 139 Posted March 27, 2013 Well, let's hope to have in SA Quality and not Quantity. You can't simply make the game more difficult by having an horde of Z, that would only suck big time.Better tracking and more resilient Z, that should be the way._Anubis_
LilBikkie 1 Posted March 27, 2013 I dont think they can do too much in the way of making them harder until they solve the inconsistent detection issue. Once that is done why done they make it that unless you headshot a Z they don't die, a few body shots may make them fall ( maybe like the unconcious thing for players ) but they get back up and keep persuing you. This way you could still run in deal with Z qiuckly by knocking them down but you won't be able to stick around looting forever or killing new spawns in the citties with your silenced whatever gun because the Z's will get back up and continues chasing you until you deal with them properly. This rewards skill and limits the ability to quickly raid but doesn't remove it all together
DemonGroover 8836 Posted March 27, 2013 I agree that massive quantities isnt the way to go but there should definitely be more zombies around. Cherno and Elektro should be places of extreme high risk of zombies, instead of just PvP.
hogscraper 328 Posted March 27, 2013 I was in awe thinking about the amount of bricks that would be shat if the zombies acted like those in the latest World War Z trailer. Even a dozen or two, piling into doors, through windows would be epic to have to deal with. Also, having them drop something more than an empty tin can would be nice if I had to work harder to kill them.

Shiki Nanaya 9 Posted March 28, 2013 If I recall the weapon/stuff you wear has durability in standalone. This actually does lower the risk of pvp in some way because if someone wanted your gun that much and they destroyed it because they were a poor shot and only hit the weapon it would force those who wish to pvp to be more skilled and calculating. cgsprite 0 Posted March 28, 2013 I want PVE to be a BIG risk, otherwise I won't play the damn game. I want what Rocket is talking about, Zombies that are actually scary and a challenge. Not a the PVP game which DayZMod turned out to be once you figured out how Zombies worked.
