DayZ Standalone and next generation consoles

Recommended Posts

With the PS4 and Xbox 720(probably) coming out this year, there is going to be a big push for game developers to either port or create entire new games for the new platforms. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that the PS4 will be running on a AMD APU with a 6670 SLI'ed with the APU's integrated graphics. That would run the mod in its current state on low to mid settings, but the standalone will be better optimized. So, could we be seeing a possible console port for the next gen platforms? How do you think this would affect the community, or the game itself?

Controls is a big factor. There's literally hundreds of key commands for DayZ on the PC. PS4 and Xbox? Eh... Key combos would look like a landfill.

Who knows, personally I'd rather be a greedy bugger and hold onto DayZ. Even with these graphics consoles will struggle against the best pcs.

Yeah, but consoles don't need to keep up with PC's. People get consoles because they are cheap, convenient, and don't require many of the things a PC does. But DayZ would struggle in its current form, but the Standalone will be able to squeeze out better framerates. But have you ever played BF3 on the consoles? It shows how demanding games, even when downsized for a console port, have trouble running. So I could see some difficulty with consoles handling the game.

The problem with consoles is they rely on peer to peer connections for online gaming. Not to many platforms use dedicated servers on the console gaming market. How many times you "WTF" when the host quits your Black Ops game? or any other game to speak of? Those games that did not rely on the peer to peer networks ( M.A.G. for example) were in the few. So games such as Dayz and all E.A. Games are too structured (some would say controlling) to leave the control into the power of the players and lets not mention the "limitations" you would encounter. Not saying the next generation consoles are going to be weak by any means, but other things will factor into the multiplayer aspect, the main one which is always, when it comes to online, the hosts ISP. Doesn't matter how fast the rig or console is, if the internet connection is crap on a peer to peer, which is what you get on consoles.

That's the gist of what I was saying, yes.

Hello there

If it's leaked, it's not wanted here.

I would recommend using the search bar and having a look at the thread from a few months ago, good information there.

I'm gonna guess it's coming. Also, I think the PS4 is running a 7770. Correct me if I'm wrong.

But I do have to wonder how the servers would work. I'm not really sure how anything other than dedicated servers would work.

I think that the controls could be simplified enough so that it would be fairly easy to learn.
