A random meteor shower isnt a silly idea, though it would be very very rare.

However the idea of them spawning gear?? Considering meteors hit the Earth at a speed of around 7km/second (and that's a slow one hitting the earth from behind) - i fail to see anything surviving that, even an infant Superman.

Maybe look at it like this, meteors dont even hit the earth cuz they get bruned from the air friction.

And if it would hit ofc it would be a disaster, everyone would die... But if they made falling stars if would be cool :P

Meteors actually cause mini earth quakes / explosions and set off car alarms, shatter windows etc, so implementing all of that would take a hefty toll on the engine, IF it's even capable of that much detail and realism. I think it would be really hard to simulate it in real time without causing performance issues. Also loot spawning from it, no, that's unrealistic. I like the idea of it being a distraction, maybe all the zombies on the server would get distracted by it, but it's not practical.
