differnt zombies (zombie species)

now it would be great to see some more varity with the zombie menace not in tearms of clothing or missing body parts something more along the lines of blood suckers having more advance zombies would make the game more entertaining and scary also this would add more callange for the more experiance players I for one find the basic zombies more of an obsticle than a threat so having some advance zombie types would add more of a survial aspect allready present in the game. Now im not saying put these thing everywhere just a few to make thing intersting and add somthing to fear

yea a little what I was going for but not exactly I was thing more dead space like with variation on how they attack or just add some stealthy zombies

Infected humans is what they are, nothing more please... no necromorph limbs or exploding bloaty green goo, slime for me thanks.

I'd prefer an enhancement of current zed features for example.. infested rotting flesh maggotry, missing/part limb defunctions and maybe even infected dogs with skinny, sometimes broken ribs with a side order of random blood splatters.

Wait, yeah great idea. Then we can name it Resident Evil 19 or L4D3. Yeah no thanks. Keep it simple. Solo, minimal threat. The threat with zombies is always their numbers.

Yeah i dont really like this suggestion too much, i understand where you are coming from though. Maybe the addition of hordes which has been spoken about will create the challenge you want.

dayz origions got zombies with missing arms hatchets in there heads even saw one carrying an arm once. I like some callange not mcuh of that in games and some sneaky zombies would add to that

Edit: dont want somthing major just like somthing with projectels or somthing that can take more than five shots so far never played any other map than Namalsk just because of the blood suckers

Stuff like that works in L4D but it's just not right for DayZ...

Also apologies mods for this slightly unrelated post. I would like to play on a server with you sometime to see actually how good you are that you dont find day z a challenge. Ive been playing for around 8 months and i still find it a challenge and i think im pretty good now.

Thats exactly what you're meant to do; play Doom/Resident Evil 63/other random generic zombie shooter game when you want a gore-fest action packed thrill ride of a bullet festival.

Play Day Z when you want a game aimed at a more discerning audience featuring a post appocolypse zombie survival.

Day Z is what YOU make of it. If you have ran out of things to entertain you or challenge you in the game then it's because of your lack of imagination.

Yes, it's there, but nothing to do with Rocket or the official DayZ mod.

We'll see if you're still asking for special infected once the zombies are running indoors. xD

Perhaps zombie dogs, chickens, cows etc?

I would not want to see "special zombies" or boss zombies like resident evil or whatever, but zombie animals would seem feasible.

How bout we add controllers, blind dogs, flesh pigs, burers, pseudodogs, poltergeists, chimeras, pseudogiants, and Zeds with guns like Stalker exactly.

No mutants, just better zeds

id love to be eaten by a horrifice creature of fleash would make it all the more satisfing to see its head blown off. wouldnt consider DOOM genaric not many games with demons in it also never played resident evil have played LFD not to great of a game but thats to a debate

I think by 'generic' Box meant the standard FPS 'run around and blow and blow shit up' game format. It doesn't really matter too much what you're blowing up.

That's not to say that DOOM and L4D are bad games though. I like DOOM 3 and L4D/L4D2, they're just much more 'gamey' than DayZ.

Like Brave.arse said, they're technically just infected humans, so there shouldn't be mutants or giant demons or flying baby heads like in Doom or House of the Dead. Does that mean they shouldn't be challenging? No... in my opinion they're not enough of a threat, they're laughably easy to avoid.

It annoys me when people say stuff along the lines of "zombies are eagle eyed! They're OP! They saw me crouching from almost 100m away!"

Well, no shit, you can see them from several hundred meters, what are you complaining about? This is a freakin' zombie survival mod, the key word there is "zombie", people should be killed by zombies far more often. Zombies need to be much more dangerous, hopefully the standalone will provide that.

Exactly. My point was you could be shooting inflatable dolls for all the difference it makes for these types of games - which is fine, they are afterall primarily "shooter" gamers, that's the genre of the game. But they aren't in the same genre as Day Z and their style and content doesn't really have as big a place within it.

In Day Z the main aim isnt purely to just go around blasting different types of bad guys, with the challenge deriving solely from that and therefore having a need to have different "flavours" of bad guy with varying levels of difficulty. Day Z is purely about surviving your own way!

In a way it's irrelevant having different types of zombie anyway as they are only an environmental element , a single piece of a bigger puzzle within the game and each players approaches them in their own way. Some people chose not to even engage the zombies, some only at certain times of day, otehrs with certsin weapons, some prefer to stay away from towns and the dead all together.

I'd agree with the others who said possibly have some infected dangerous animals on the map, such as infected dogs. A t a stretch I might even be won over by having solider zombies be a bit more difficult to kill (because of body armour), that might be interesting but having "super zombies" would detract more than it would add in my opinion. The game would be less immersive and more arcadey.

For me,a s a fan of the whole zombie fiction genre (movies, books, games etc) the main threat and attraction of zombies as the enemy is that they maybe slow, unintelligent and easy to out think and meanouver individually or in low numbers but their strength as a threat comes in their numbers and the the relentless pursuit (because of their lack of intellgence). They basically swarm anything that moves and continue to do so till either it's gone or they are dead. Their attrition is also anotehr strong factor to their menace - they are practically unlimited in their numbers and ultimately the advantage they have is that any survivor or group will eventually run out of bullets or supplies before their attack or threat reduces.

That for me needs to be reflected in the game better. I think we need to go back to the early days of the mod where it was very difficult to lose a train of zombies and they would pursue you relentlessly, on mass!
