It's all about shits and giggles so for this I use none other than the PDW, it's like holding a firework, light it up and watch it go.

The PDW has no direct upgrade, so it does not fit in to my point.

And that is not a "shits and giggles" weapon because it is good and there is no other SIDEARM (Read the word sidearm to the left there) that does what it can do, maybe there are sidearms that can do another specific thing better, but that goes in vice-versa.

They are definitely flawed, they don't line up correctly at all. Seems like some modeller at Bohemia had the "weird disability" with the 1911's sights, not me.

I've seriously only used the PDW twice in my Dayz history and the reason is I never let go of the trigger while running through super markets and I think its funny until I'm out of ammo and become overwhelmed behind the deli counter

The sights line up fine, it is hitboxes that are fucked up here, if you shoot a zombie on the forehead, ear, back of the head, eyeball, or chin, all of the shots will impact the same place, their face, because it is not programmed to understand where else the hit could possibly occur.

So what is the point (besides variety) of having the revolver and M9 in DayZ? The m1911 upgrades from the revolver in every way, and the G17 upgrades from the M9 in every way.

There is no edges to either of those weapons because their better versions exist, and they are the same rarity as their better versions.

At least with a Makarov it has 1 edge and that is that it's ammo spawns everywhere, whereas 1911 or ACP is a little less common.

well the variety in itself is a reason to have all the guns... since more variety is better usually if not in excess. also some guns are just better than others, and this fact may or may not influence a players choice on which weapon to use. ultimately it will come down to the player what to use, and that is on a personal level, one that cannot be "factually" argued directly into the favor of your particular views.

can't you accept that people have different preferences and that is good enough reason as any?

Given the current damage system it doesn't really matter if it hits their eye vs their forehead...

The sights do not line up fine, the front blade is too low and to the left. It should line up with the rear sight and be centered.

Because I am going to repeat this one more time, THEY. ARE. WORSE. IN. EVERY. WAY, there is NO preference involved, lets say the revolver one hit killed on body shots too and the m1911 didn't, then there would be a preference, but it doesn't, and it doesn't do anything like that to make it that way, choosing between something like the PDW and the M9 SD has tons of preference, you could have precision and no noise, or a big clip, with more DPS.

More guns = a better game..More variety makes people happier. the m9 is just a beretta the glock...is just a glock different brand names, borth shoot 9mm who cares about clip size. In Real life Glocks are alot heavyer and for some reason kick worse than the m9 Beretta counterpart.

I would take a m9 any day, why? Because it looks cooler and just gives me that assassin feel the glock is more of police gun.

Now if you want to make the game a bit better add in the real reasons why a revolver differs from a m1911 Because ill tell you a revolver is a whole lot more reliable and has alot more range behind it than the m1911 but whats worse is in DayZ a 5.56 round does 3-4k blood damage while a .45 ACP round does only 900-1000 thats not right what so ever the bigger round would do far more damage and have alot more stopping power...

Im really hoping that pistols get a big upgrade in the SA, the thing that would gimp pistols would be their range, but up close power thats the whole point of a pistol.

They could at least make pistols more of a non leathal gun that is more likely to cause shock or whatever.

I certainly don't like your condescending manner to which your reply is written but I'll humour it none the less, the PDW I like to think it is its own upgrade due to the ability to 'full auto' fire and as its deemed as a SIDEARM it is very relevant to this discussion. As for me saying shits and giggles, well to me that IS good, used in exactly the way Mr steak & potatoes uses it.

The revolver has better range than a 1911.

Roughly by 25m i think... maybe 50m, the wiki is so different now than back in June last year... so who knows. I do remember for a fact the effective range was definitely higher than the 1911.

I agree with Gews, much cleaner sights, does it makeup for the greater recoil, slower speed of fire, and 1 less shot? Maybe.

(Edit) Actually I think it is the fact you can't even SEE your target's head @ 100m with the 1911 compared to the revolver. If I had the time or fucks to give, I'd have someone join a game of ARMEX with me to show the differences between the weapons at a max range of 100 meters.

Seems more and more like you are really quite a pessimistic person that really doesn't want to accept several great points in this thread. All you seem to want to do is provide vague counter-points in attempt to argue.

I will try to invoke a rational response once more...

There is preference in the game. Weapons you do not like, others may love.

Ex: I love the revolver over the M1911 because the iron sights on the M1911 I find hard to use. It's not that I cannot use them correctly, I just prefer the sights of the revolver. Thus, I am glad that the revolver is in game.

Ex #2: The M9 I do prefer over the G17 because of, what? The iron sights. I dislike wide and bulky iron sights on guns. I am a proud owner of two Glock handguns IRL, one of which is a Glock 17 with custom iron sights.

hey OP the sights for M1911 and revolver ARE different and the M1911 sights ARE slightly crooked.

I prefer revolver because it gives you better awareness of what is around your target, that's also why I like aimpoint scopes etc because its just a small dot with plenty of space around your target that you can see.
