DayZ Standalone - crosshair

Recommended Posts

Make the crosshairs near useless as they are now, and I'd be fine. I only use them in CQB anyways, as its a helluva lot faster than ADS.

Well the one problem with fps games lately is that there is no skill included, you point you shoot, you are either dead or got a kill, then you run aimlessly through the map. Not including the crosshair in SA or just using the Arma 2 one is fine with me. If either gets into the game then I will enjoy it. If they actually use the one in the dev vlog. Sure I will be a little sad but that doesn't mean I won't play the game. But this game is a survival game, which does include tactics on surviving and combat. The combat tactic will be thrown out the window with a simple crosshair like that imo, but I am pretty sure Rocket knows what he is doing.

The thing is, DayZ is not going to be a First Person or a Third Person Shooter, but a survival simulator striving for authenticity, with zombies tacked on. Therefore, using the FPS-argument for crosshairs doesn't stand in this case.

3 questions:

1. will the game have firearms(or weapons in general)?

2. will you be able to shoot them?

3. will you be able to do so in first person view?

if the answer to these questions is yes then the game falls into the fps genre(among others), and my so called argument stands.

and authenticity to what? rockets imagination? id like to think he decides that

I have no preference about cross hairs in the current mod. It's not even a consideration when I pick a server. The iron sights are a lot better when actually shooting. The cross hairs I guess are useful for shooting goats or the odd zombie. But not really for serious shooting.

Maybe it's because there is currently no good way to simulate point shooting besides decreasing accuracy. Point shooting is when you are well practiced at firing a weapon and can shoot targets at short range with a good degree of practical accuracy without actually aiming down the sights or scope. I mean practical accuracy by being able to hit center mass at 20 yards or so. I think cross hairs have their place as a way of simulating this.

So, before inviting myself to a flame party for espousing an idea that isn't uber realistic. It is possible to fire a weapon accurately to a degree at short ranges such as within a building without actually aiming. Yes, I have done it, no it is not extremely accurate, that's not the point. Also similar is shooting a recurve bow with no sight. It's called instinctive shooting. After a while, you know where to shoot. Since there is no sight so you must line up your shot with your body, bow and target picture.

So in short, cross hairs aren't an evil non realistic feature to be shunned at all costs. I'm all for realism but it does make a good way of lining up a close range shot.

I don't think anyone wastes ammo for rare sniper rifles on zombies. xD

How do you think I got 10K kills, you gotta use sniper rifles to draw them out in hordes.

This is true, but the current crosshairs allow 200-metre snap shots... way too helpful. Some people can just shoulder their rifle and point it like a skeet shooter, and they can be surprisingly accurate at close ranges. All about balance. Personally I prefer no crosshair since the middle of the screen gives an okay idea of where to aim as well.

Anyone else notice the new font? It look a bit shit to be honest :P

Lets hope that's a place holder as well.

I think quite a lot of people have in cases where it was deemed necessary.

edit: I also welcome the removal of crosshairs.

Aiming w/o sighs and crosshairs is also possible for well practiced gamers. Try killing floor and experience it for yourself, its been ages since I don't need a crosshair for close range anymore. Pure instinct.

Crosshair aren't needed, and looks like those who say they do are not good enough nor experienced enough playing games. Rocket say this game is skill-based, so if you can't aim w/o crosshair, get better instead of QQ.

I think Arma3 crosshair is better than Arma2's because it doesnt show the actual bullet hit point, only area-where-it-might-land. But in my opinion ironsight is the only "crosshair" people should use, unless they enjoy shooting from the hip. Red orchestra 2, anyone? But no doubt, there'll be "veteran" and "rookie" server settings and everyone will be happy.

In general it's fun to see people being in troubles without 3rd person crosshairs... "U r just lucky" comments makes me smile. No crosshair means A) harder to snipe, I would welcome own ironsight+scope views to scoped rifles though B ) playing by using 3rd person view takes a sec to switch into 1st person ironsight view C) aiming in general requires more skill.

No crosshair doesnt make any sense in a fps game. Even if they remove it you can put something in the center of your monitor.

If you're going to necro a topic, try and make it worthwhile.

A substantial point would be nice.

Anyhoo. With aim-deadzone up to ~10% the point you're aiming at becomes hard to determine.

Hopefully the devs have thought of this and enforced it to prevent home-made crosshairs.
