novogeek 253 Posted March 12, 2013 You can only use the Hatchet or a Main Weapon. In order to use the Hatchet, you will need to put your main weapon down or place it in your backpack.Be careful, a main weapon requires 10 slots and if you don't have enough in your backpack you will destroy your main weapon. If you drop your weapon on the floor and you disconnect ... it will be gone.HTH
tommes 331 Posted March 12, 2013 Solution: Always have 10 Slots free in your backpack.
timedance 120 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) unrealistic, because the mainweapon is not packed in the backpack... - it hangs around shoulder! Edited March 12, 2013 by TiMEDANCE
CroFireMan 9 Posted March 12, 2013 I does hand around your shoulder when you have your sidearm equipped.

fluxley 2228 Posted March 12, 2013 As i understand it there are no melee weapons in Arma2, so in order to add the hatchet into the DayZ mod they decided to reskin a gun to look like a hatchet and reduce its range to just a few meters.Arma2 also doesnt allow two primary weapons to be carried at the same time which is why you have to put your gun into your backpack and not just over your shoulder. It sucks but im sure they'll fix it one day when they get round to it.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted March 12, 2013 Maybe in the standalone, I don't think it's possible in the mod. :(
novogeek 253 Posted March 12, 2013 unrealistic, because the mainweapon is not packed in the backpack... - it hangs around shoulder!Ummm ... your initial question was: "I wonder how it is possible to change to hatchet, without losing your main weopon!?!" ... I answered.*shakes head*
liquidmind 320 Posted March 12, 2013 my few cents: if you decide to pick up a weapon, you decide not to use the hatchet.if you have to use the hatchet, because you cannot kill silently any other way, you either have to put your gun down or not take it in the first place.I know it's unrealistic, but in a way it's one of the few things where you have to decide wether you take an item or not.I personally stick to my hatchet until I have a gun that allows to kill silently. It's a limitation like not being able to carry a lot of loot if you insist on carrying 2 main-weapons. If there is a melee-slot in SA, where you can equip a melee weapon too, I wouldn't be against it. But at the moment I don't mind that you have to switch. Considering that the hatchet is 1-hit-kill on zombies. it's fair that you can't use it all the time. There was a time when you could equip the crowbar in addition to your main-weapon and switch through context-menu. Considering that crowbar is a lot weaker, I thought that was a good compromise. A hatchet that can be drawn very quick, that kills with 1 hit, without a noise, would be too overpowered. Making the hatchet weaker, would have people complain.
V2_Danny 48 Posted March 12, 2013 As liquidmind said, the crowbar can be equipped at the same time as any primary weapon. You switch between them using F. Become Freeman!
ted striker 11 Posted March 12, 2013 If you can sling your primary weapon over your shoulder, and draw your secondary from a leg holster, why couldn't you holster the pistol and pull the hatchet from your tool belt? Technically it makes sense. I would like to see that.
floogy (DayZ) 25 Posted March 12, 2013 I'll bet it makes it in the SA. I'd like to see the hatchet replace the sidearm in the mod though. Would be a good compromise for using the hatchet without having to sacrifice defense from bandits. It's tough to decide which to use since you basically are the mercy of other players with the hatchet, unless of course you're eyeball to eyeball.
