chickenbandit 2 Posted June 19, 2012 So I failed to start keeping track of numbers right after the patch was released, but over the last 8-12 or so hours there has been a .3% (EDIT: botched my numbers) decrease in murders per survival attempt, and by all indications it is still rising.I mentioned the following points in another thread yesterday, a thread that claimed newbies would be slaughtered mercilessly on the coast:"I've seen considerably LESS murders since the change. Newbies don't start with any items worth killing them over. And newbies that would feel inclined to go on wanton killing rampages no longer have the means. I was in Elektro last night, and saw 5+ deaths from zombies, and absolutely none from PKing.TL;DRThis patch will significantly lower the murder rate if anything. You're so wrong it hurts."If someone knows of a way to get the full numbers over the last few days that would be awesome. I'll be keeping this thread updated.EDIT: Adding in the numbers I have8:27 AM Mountain Daylight Time 6/184187712 survival attempts758288 murders18.1% of survivors die by murder6:15 PM Mountain Daylight Time 6/18430356176995517.8%UPDATE:Murder rate now at 17.6%, we're just a little shy of a .5% decrease. Bumping to see what everyone thinks.
Castle (DayZ) 23 Posted June 19, 2012 My experience in 1.7.0 with beta patch was that I could go along the coast and meet friendlies all over the place. As soon as 1.7.1 was out I was getting murdered left and right.
redsh1rt 24 Posted June 19, 2012 I used to kill anyone on sight. Now I don't bother killing unarmed players unless I feel they may be a potential threat (i.e. spotted me or looking for weapons in the immediate area I'm in).

The plural of anecdote is not data, and while there are other plausible explanations for the drop in murder rates, your personal experiences say nothing about it one way or the other.Could you possibly tell us WHY you think 1.7.1 made people more likely to kill (contrary to the numbers)? flevius 1 Posted June 19, 2012 So I failed to start keeping track of numbers right after the patch was released' date=' but over the last 8-12 or so hours there has been a .4% decrease in murders per survival attempt, and by all indications it is still rising.I mentioned the following points in another thread yesterday, a thread that claimed newbies would be slaughtered mercilessly on the coast:"I've seen considerably LESS murders since the change. Survival attempts are being terminated by the new buffed zeds far more often than before, especially since people have no weapons.
Imbalanxd 59 Posted June 19, 2012 Zombies are a considerably larger threat than in the previous patch, which results in more players dying to them. This, in turn, reduces the relative number of people who die to murders, though the total number of murders remains the same.Inconclusive data is inconclusive. Not that I care whether the murder rate is going to increase or decrease, your deduction is just incorrect.
spykr 8 Posted June 19, 2012 I'd been shooting people on sight for a few hours out of sheer paranoia and promised myself I would stop and only shoot in self-defence. Instantly met 5+ friendlies in the middle of Cherno and patched up a newbie with no gun who only had 1700 blood, then gave him a spare M1911.Felt so much better to help the guy than to shoot him... Butane 2 Posted June 19, 2012 The only reason it dropped is because people don't spawn with weapons anymore. Just give it time.
ZtruK 0 Posted June 19, 2012 Not that I care but my 2nd life last night I got DRM'd about 1 minute after spawn. I don't think those guys would go into town to loot the beans before anyway. It's killing for the sake of killing. I like it that way though, the only thing I don't like is not being able to get lucky and sneak up behind one as a noob and hit the jackpot, until you get at least a dbbl barrel shotty, I guess. First off it's too early to call anything.Food drops are glitched right now which will change tonight so be sure to start collecting data after that patch as that will change game play significantly. The patch is new and people are till getting used to it.Zeds are a larger threat now so shooting in Electro/Cherno is much more risky and more players die to zeds than before.People still have effectively infinite ammo (if this was patched I'd assume killing would drop significantly). So your conclusion could be true, it could be false, but either way it's too early to call anything. icec0ld 0 Posted June 19, 2012 The only thing dropping is the number of fresh spawns shooting other players. Bandits are still killing at more or less the same level they always have and always will. This is a side effect of simply having less weapons available. Are people actually grouping up? considerably less than I've ever seen as food and weapons become harder to come by.
dallas 5195 Posted June 19, 2012 Being a carebear and all, I kind of scored two cold blooded murders tonight. :P
BlackAlpha 12 Posted June 19, 2012 People kill on sight because: they have no other way to defend themselves effectively; they have no easy way to teamup with strangers; mindless killers have free reign. The recent patch didn't affect any of the above, so the killings and anti-social behavior will continue. That's simple math.So whatever is changing the numbers, it's not because the people's mindset has changed, it's something else.
fml 29 Posted June 19, 2012 isn't .3% hardly a considerable amount?
mrcheapy 1 Posted June 19, 2012 Also remember the complete lack of ammunition in most cases. Many times I've found a common gun with no ammoalso no food lolol
Kolchak (DayZ) 5 Posted June 19, 2012 You know what people see when they look at data? Exactly what they want to. We can spin this any way you like: Murders went down because PVPers realized the loot was broken soon after the patch came out, so they're waiting to log in until they can get food and not die. Then they will resume their rampages.
mikyjax 3 Posted June 19, 2012 I think the therm "bandit" is far too honorable and respectfull to design people who kill other people unarmed.
chickenbandit 2 Posted June 19, 2012 isn't .3% hardly a considerable amount?Given that there are millions of deaths, it's actually a significant figure. We'll see if it holds up though.

mikyjax 3 Posted June 19, 2012 Yep :)But still.... I'm sure bandit, even in a game, is not the good name.
Wired 1 Posted June 19, 2012 Kill squad was going through cherno and electro on the server I was on.
Hze 3 Posted June 19, 2012 i agree and disagree, iv been killed numerous times when i spawned even though i have nothing to take
Landen 2 Posted June 19, 2012 not alot of people waste their ammo like that, sure its fun to kill people. but ammo is pretty nice to have for real threats
Never 237 Posted June 19, 2012 It was slowly rising anyway, from about 2-3 weeks ago. was @27 mins, now its @34.Don't worry it'll soon drop again now everyone will be hacking either other in the face as they run round cherno with a lulztrain.
Sixteen18 15 Posted June 19, 2012 Don't think I can agree with murder rates going down, although I have started playing on daytime servers much more recently. Last night in Cherno I heard shots fired with barely any breaks for like 30 minutes and several kill messages every minute. I think respawn players are heading into the two big towns in bigger numbers now to quickly get some guns.
