Are Cherno and Elektro staying for the standalone? i hope not!

Recommended Posts

hey, after seeing the new devblog today, i realised that they are expanding chernogorsk to even further than what it is now, and personally i think that cherno and elektro are two factors that really break this game. i only ever go to cherno or elektro, because that's where everyone goes. no one is around anywhere else, apart from maybe stary or NW, but if you wanna go there you need a car or some serious patience :P. anyway, i'm crap at putting points across, what i'm trying to say is that i think the game would benefit from the removal (or downscaling) of cherno and elektro. There's no sense of exploration or survival in dayZ atm because everyone just goes to cherno or elektro to deathmatch. there's nothing else to do. without cherno and elektro, players would be spread out all over the map, and because stary and NW are far away from the coast there would be an adventure if you're trying to get to them, if you do want to fight people. there wouldn't anywhere near as much deathmatching. and i know deathmatching is commonly liked among players because of the lack of thought and creativity. but that's not what dayZ should be in my opinion.

tl;dr, remove cherno and elektro to promote exploration and more randomness of events and enounters.

constructive comments only please :)

I don't think that turning Chernarus into basically a field with a few hamlets would attract much of a playerbase. Sure, the cities are high risk, but they are high reward as well, and with new, more challenging survival mechanics in the Standalone players will be forced to club together more to stay alive in such a dangerous, zombie-infested place as Cherno. Also, by increasing lootable buildings and generally increasing the size of the cities, players will be more spread through the town with fewer 'chokepoints' such as the current firestation.

As far as I know, all the towns will stay on the map for the standalone, but they will be improved and new locations are being added.

i like the zombies being more threatening, but the fact that you can just walk into a place (or even spawn there) in under five minutes doesnt really give any incentive to ever leave cherno or elektro. i don't mean they should take out big towns altogether, but just don't have them at the coast. that's the point i failed at putting across in the op :P

Well, the reason they are so popular is because they provide an easy pathway to get reasonably good gear quite quickly, all in your nicely wrapped city package. By providing more reasons to visit other places and structures (similar to Devil's Castle, etc), and more enterable buildings, players will have a reason to leave the coast, which currently many villages lack. I do like the idea of putting a larger city in the North, although Berezino already largely serves this purpose.

It has a similar status as NWAF, high risk, high reward.

i've never even heard of any fighting going on in berezino, but yeah that's what i mean about needing an incentive to go north. at the moment there really isn't one apart from the two barracks at NW and the Tents at Stary. i think if they simply moved elektro and cherno inland by about 2-3km then it would feel much more like a survival game, because you wouldn't just be running straight for cherno and elektro to get fast gear, you'd have to make your way to the cities and pass by the villages on the way to get small loot, just for survival. that would be awesome haha :D

No one goes to places besides NW, Starry, and Cherno/Elektro?

BULLSHIT! I've been tracking someone who's sticking around where I've set up camp for the past three days!

EDIT: Which is nowhere near any of those I'd like to add.

how on earth do you track someone? do you look for used bean tins on the ground everywhere? if your answer is yes, you're either a liar or have WAY too much free time on your hands. you can't track someone in dayZ, it just doesnt happen. unless they're moronic enough to shoot a flare up in the air every five minutes. also, for the past THREE days? i call the supremest of bullshit sir. anyway back to topic please :P

If you only go to Cherno/Elecktro, how do you know nobody goes anywhere else? Perhaps all the careless players go to those two cities and all the stealthy ones go inland, you just never see the stealthy ones and always see the careless ones.

Also, the proximity to the spawn points & abundance of gear spawns play a huge part in why people frequent the two major coastal cities.

I can track a man in the dark of the night, I can track a moccasined foot over bare rock. I am the bear and I am the eagle. Manitou guides me. They call me "One-Who-Thinks-Like-Dog".

I don't like Cherno and Elektro much, too small and a sniper's paradise. I don't understand the appeal, I get my morphine and I get out immediately. Expansion of both would be good in my opinion, with more room there will be more places to hide.

They haven't removed any towns or cities AFAIK, they've just added new places. Haven't explored anywhere near the whole map but Kamenka has a supermarket and Balota's airfield has a few more buildings (no barracks) and it's 4 deer stands are now a huge military outpost with loads of tents.

No action in Berezino? I killed 2 guys in there and got killed once. I also met a friendly guy with a fiddy cal, who helped me find a wheel for my bike. From my experience, Cherno is full of people who run on roads and have nothing but hatchets and enfields.

I didn't even know about all the players that I met in Berezino until I took a good look or got ambushed. However, in Cherno you can see zombies running on their backs from 800 meters and can hear them going off with the enfields. You don't even need to track them down, they do that for you.

Chernarus has to keep Cherno and Elektro for all the dorks to congregate and die in, either by their own hand or by not being able to outwit zombies ... which seems to be mostly the case according to the regular stream of kill messages in game.

That generally leaves the rest of the map pleb free to enjoy. Last time I was anywhere near either was a couple of weeks ago, passing through in an offroad pickup (not from the area) on a raid for lots of windscreen glass (not for anything in the area).

DayZ is a sandbox and thus whatever game players make of it ... if that is nothing, then that is what they will end up with.

so you just look around extremely large areas, finding used fireplaces etc. how on earth do you know that you're tracking someone? how do you know they're online at the same time as you? the idea of tracking in this game just doesnt make sense to me. it doesnt seem plausible or practical.

I found a guy that had killed bunch of zombies in deer stand near Berezino. That alerted me of his presence and I got him with my CZ550.

yeah that's fine. i was just telling the guy that the idea of tracking someone for three days is not possible. seeing some dead zombies in a town and concluding that there is a guy nearby is not what i was on about :P

In the new developers video, Rocket mentioned that your discarded bean cans and whatnot will store info that the game can use for tracking with dogs, maybe fingerprinting in later versions. But yeah, there's no way you can track someone for days on end Last of the Mohicans style.

A brief holiday in Cherno and Elektro is good character building! Usually because you're about to start again =P

Anyway, I really liked how things are looking with the stand-alone. One thing that did worry me is the vast amount of windows you're now going to have to look at as you move around =/ My paranoia meter is going to break!

Everynoe going to chero and elktro becasue it's the best loot citys from fresh spawners, you can get what you need ONLY from there.

The new Cherno and Elektro are going to be awesome. What with car wrecks, loads of enterable buildings as well as the new loot spawns - you could literally explore the cities for hours.
