DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

Recommended Posts

I just wanna see the things they are working on all the stuff they have shown so far I have seen in Arma 3 vids..

I am coming off as a hater and a punk because I want it to be good and I wanna see the work they are doing but it seems like Rocket spends all his time on Twitter and there is no real hard evidence that they are making any real headway with the game.

I am sorry I came off a a douche that is just my inner pessimist shining through.

No worries. I can guarantee you they're working their asses off. In the testing group on Skype Rocket (and other devs) are frequently awake into the small hours working hard, contantly rolling out patches (hourly sometimes) with map updates/content/gear/bug fixes ect.so in that regard you have nothing to worry about. The testers are working hard too constantly filling well written bug reports that are addressed quickly by the devs.

In fact I'm starting to think they don't sleep at all. They're literally at it 24 hours a day. Don't forget, this is a very personal project for Rocket and he's well aware he only has one chance to get it right. He's not just some random douche sitting on a board of chairmen trying to come up with ways of relieving us of our money as is the case with many Dev companies.

Remember they're holding a lot back (in terms of info for very good reasons). There's some epic stuff being worked on, we just need to chill and wait, it's gonna take time to do it well.

I can honestly say without doubt though that no mod is ever gonna come close to what these guys are doing. That's just a fact.

Complete opposite, actually. He's died down on Twitter quite a lot recently, and it's not as if he dedicates a large portion of his day to posting social media updates.

I'd be thankful man. They said they were going to release for Christmas 2012, and I bet they're so happy they didn't (I know I am!)

They're developing DayZ from the ground up, with a complete engine re-adaptation specifically for the sole purpose that DayZ has... nd that has only just recently been finished, in terms of development.

I like the clothing.

otherwise, it looks pretty much like original DayZ or arma2. Weapons, cars, buildings look the same.. to me atleast.

Fingerprints on tincans?? why?

I hate all this sensationalism. Very annoying. Sometimes i think silence is the best option, for all of us, especially the team

they are NOT making dayz from the ground up. Cant you see that? interior, lootspawns etca is done.

Do you think they would complete interior in buildings that they would not use? or if they would make new buildings? most of these buildings are from arma2. Ofcourse its supposed to look real and thats why probably alot of the content from arma2 would be included as content for dayz SA, but its not new. Any retard can see that.

Yeah, probably a bad choice of words on my part. No need to be a wanker about it.

What I meant to put across was that they put time aside to focus on having the foundations of the game appropriate for the release of a full game, as opposed to the mod.

He was talking about the engine. Of course Chernarus+ is relatively similar to the one we've been playing, there'd be a shitstorm if the map was changed completely. It's been changed to the extent that I, someone who's been playing the mod for nearly a year now, find it hard to tell exactly where I am at times. There's so much new stuff, a lot of the old street layouts have changed and there are completely new areas of the map.

Also, many of the new interiors that I've been looking at are completely new, made just for DayZ, not imported. As are the new weapons, they are all being modeled and textured for DayZ, not imported.

I thought the whole Chernarus+ project revolved more around additional locations than reworking old layouts. That's quality though!

I was always wondering just how different Chernarus will feel once SA is released, and if I'll get bored of it quickly like I did with Chernarus on the mod.

Well im not being a wanker i just see people just as naive. Ofcourse the game is gonna be a hit and i want it to be.

Guess its hard to make a game, and these guys have never done it before.

And about that zombie zigzag thing i think that zombie was like a trained pitbull asslicking him, looks stupid in my openion.

DayzMod already have taken care of the zigzagging zombies, i think they focus too much on the Media interview and to people that only look at the game and dont play it.

Honestly who gives a shit about new grass? things people want to see is vehicles, weapons and clothing. And we all know those things might need some fixing to sounds, suspensions and shit thats bugged in dayzmod

Mate, it's all being worked on. Just because you saw a clip of some new pathing for zeds (at a very early stage) doesn't mean the other things aren't being worked on too. In fact Rockets said he can't wait to move on to customisable vehicles ect. according to him and new clothes are being made as we speak, lot's of them. It's not a one man band, the programmers can work on bugs, pathing ect. while the artists are making things we will see further down the line.

The whole point of the testing being done ATM is to eliminate as many bugs as possible so that's priority. Until that's squared away everything else would be pointless.

It needs to have a solid base to build these things into, and for the moment that is what they're focused on. Adding sexy new content that we all want to see comes later, once it's solid.

Horah! 3 things that kind were "meh" in the blog. First the testers were... awkward and didn't really participate much in discussion, it felt like Rocket had to force them to speak. Wish they could have someone like dslexy on this. Second, the blur/motion was kind of making me sick, maybe it just one of the post options that can be turned off. 3rd, the head bobs a little bit too much, in real life I barely see any head bobbing in my vision, hope Rocket will fix that. All of that aside, great job!!!

I agree, They should just talked more freely but i guess its hard to say something constructive sometimes, and easyer to look at the flaws.

Ïd look at the mans AK-74 and say LOL where is the box? that damn weapon looks like it just came from the factory.

Yes you can probably turn the headbobbing off like you can now.

Take a look at Arma 3 alpha and you can see what to expect somewhat in terms of vehicle physics etc. I for one think that the environment is equally important as the rest, with the new locked graphics it will be important to have a good level of detail as a base,

Hello. I have infact played arma3 alpha some and laughed about those car physics. The car goes 15km/h uphill and 140km/h downhill. Not just that, it feels like your driving on the moon (not that i ever have) but you can jump incredible distances in arma3, the gravity is way off.

Hope for gods sake they dont use arma3 physics.

Hate to use the phrase, but it's in Alpha man...

TBH it's too early to start laying into either game, especially DayZ. It's worth remembering that DayZ will probably be in development for many months after initial release. If we're sitting here in a years time looking at a glitchy game with no content then I'll take everything I've said back, until then we just need to sit tight and see what they come up with.

the problem is that most people are simply not able to imagine how a finished product will look like if they just see some basics....take the zombie pathfinding for example....in the vid we can only see a human male model following the player using the standart running animation which does not look very impressing.....just try to imagine how this will look like using the new mocaped zombie animations, the new skeleton and the new zombie skins.....

the same goes for many other things too...

just my two cents

Atleast we can sit here and make comments.

Dont think anyone is worked up, the dev team should appreciate people like me thats not afraid to speak their mind in fear of being fired :)

The dev team always encourage criticism and you'll have to trust me when I say that we're some of the harshest critics. I just think some of the criticism in this thread is a bit mis-placed. Do carry on though.

My main criticism ATM would be with the devblogs themselves. I'd rather they stuck to the format of the earlier ones, just some nice screenies, what they're working on an where they're at.

I think the new ones are fine, they could just do with a little more polish.

I appreciate that Rocket and Matt are super busy and don't have much time for this but I'm sure others would be willing to help out...

Yes arma3 physics are bad now..

It was already funny when the first demo video came out... where they were hitting some cargo containers etc with the vehicle, did not impress..

Same as arma2 physics etc are quite awfull.. Well the game wasnt ment to be some demolition derby.

Ofcourse Matt and Rocket is busy, infact i think Rocket is one of the most in touch with his product of all designers ive ever seen. But what about all the other headbobbing creatures wiggeling around the office? Im not saying they dont do anything cause i dont know any of them or even know if they exist. But if they dont do anything is Rocket a leader? is Matt?

I'm not really sure what you mean? Do you mean how is the team organised? If you do then Rockets the Lead Project Manager and Matt's his production assistant.
