A friend of mine asked me an interesting question yesterday...

Recommended Posts

So I told him how awesome DayZ is and how it's so much like my favorite show ever Walking Dead. I told him about the whole aspect of scavenging and surviving by finding food, drinks, and other things. He then asked me the simple question of how do you win the game.

So I guess my question is if there's an objective to this game? Is it literally just to survive? If that's the case, what kind of objectives do you guys give yourself to keep you occupied? For instance, currently I'm okay with food and drink and I have a decent weapon and stuff. At first I was like okay what do I do now????? But then I figured since I don't have cooked meat for my health why don't I go out and try to find matches, a hunting knife, and a hatchet so I can go out and kill and animal, cook it, and save the cooked meat.

What do you guys do to keep yourself occupied in the game??

Thanks

It's a sandbox game, you make your own objectives.

I generally try to get the essentials to survive to begin with and then work on finding/repairing/keeping vehicles. Saving newbies on the coast from griefers can be fun too.

Everytime you find a tin of beans you win. Every minute you stay alive you win.Everytime you find a weapon you win Everytime you kill a zombie you win. Everytme you encounter another player you win. Everytime you evade or kill another player you win. Everytime You find a vehicle, you win. Everytime you make it to the north west airfield you win. Everytime you find a ghilli suit, you win. Everytime you make a series of interesting video blogs on you tube from in game footage you win.

Its your story, you decide your goals and objectives. Thats the beauty of sandbox and this mod.

Dayz is not youre regular game. Its moore like a survivior mod, with zeds...

"This is my story" consept makes for 1000 ways to play the game.

Its the people who play the game who makes Dayz what it is.

Find a tent start a camp. Or be a medic helping strangers. Or find a vehicle and fix it up. Or go around killing everyone. Its all up to you really.

If mZLY is a cat, is it wise to let him near a sandbox?

As the others have said, the game is "open" to your interpretation of it. (within the limits of it's mechanics)

For example, you could just walk around taking screenshots of the place and post them on a blog like a war correspondent. It's really up to you.

I usually try to make a base, camp or hunt rabbits with my shotgun[ I do have better gear than a shotgun(M14 AIM + AS50) ]

To win the game you have to defeat the final boss who only spawns for five seconds at midnight in the place we do not mention. He will only appear if you leave him a sacrifice of Mountain Dew and say the Hail Mary backwards 3 times in 10 seconds. So far I've not managed to find him but I try every night.

I won't poop in it 'til the standalone, don't worry.

Killing other players once you are geared is what I find most entertaining. From the ideas Rocket has released it looks like eventually we will be able to base build similar to wasteland in the standalone. It wont be a feature at release but something he would like to do for the future.

ill scavenge all the usual items i need for a play session, then explore around looking for encounters, or a vehicle.. then see what happens.

i dont PVP, but i do love being chased and fired upon..im a bit of a weird one i guess.

In real life, there is no win. No one tells you what to do, make your own fun before you die.

Ask your friend what his score is. ;)

-and then perhaps think about yours too ;)

My current objective is to find a bloody map.

4 days, Every store NOT on the coast and not a god damn map to be seen.

I've got about 5 million watches though, so I'll always know the time.

You cant win. Eventually you will die. One headshot while scavenging for beans and it is game over.

That's the beauty of the game. Eventually you end up respawning on a beach with nothing and you have to start over.

Unless of course you have a hidden stash and friends who can come grab you with a Huey.

Honestly i litteraly made a list of What i need to do. This is what it is at the moment-

Find:

Extra wheels

Stanag Ammo

2nd car

Extra tents (For my base)

Those things keep me busy. Ive crossed many things off there, like NVGs, guns, etc...But those are my objectives. Then I always get interupted with side tasks like helping friends.

You cannot win. You always set back one way or another.

Not to be rude, but I don't consider that to be an interesting question. Quite the contrary, actually.

Really, I mean no disrespect. Just trying to be clever in expressing how limiting it is for games to force so many contrived objectives into many of them. I'm so over that.

The closest I can go is Terraria. There is a limited amount if bosses but after you kill them all you can just keep right on with what you were doing. And if you want, you can fight those bosses again.

After youve got ur basic stuff find a vehicle and put some tents down and put things in there such as meds, food/drink, spare parts and ammo!

I dont trust tents with guns! If u have a good gun keep it on you! Well unless u have a trust worthy tent.

Once you find a tin can, you have won. Once you have won, never play this game again.
