victusmortuus 1074 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) I recently just watched the latest 'The Walking Dead' episode and remembered the whole 'putting Zombie guts on you disguises you enough to maneuver through places'. This could easily work in Dayz.Requirments; Hunting knife to cut zombiesHow to: Take their organs as a lootable item similar to wearing a Ghillie/Camo/Soldier clothing.Pros: Disguised whilst looting various places, possibly disguising you to players as well due to no aggro.Cons: High chance of infection whilst zombie organs are in your backpack, slightly lesser chance of infection whilst wearing the organs, comes off when it rains exposing you to the Zombies/players due to aggro. Players have to walk (CTRL) to avoid aggro, running will alert zombie suspicion and likely players.Pretty simple idea that could add a whole new segment to Dayz and its looting. The Walking Dead, Glen and Rick displaying how it could look. victusmortuus 1074 Posted March 1, 2013 covering yourself in infected guts without consequence...but with profit.....big NOalso the infected check for symptoms and care little for looks and smell (going with 28 days later here)It'd be likely you'd get a bad infection. I find TWD does Zombies great so I'm just going on Kirkmans lore :)
Testwd3r235 2810 Posted March 1, 2013 I would like this if there was a chance of infection and players will just see another player covered in zombie guts.
victusmortuus 1074 Posted March 1, 2013 I would like this if there was a chance of infection and players will just see another player covered in zombie guts.If the player zooming has a good eye then he'd see perfectly that it was a player, however in a foggy server it'd be a lot harder to distinguish.(edited OP in Cons area)
Rekli 995 Posted March 1, 2013 Not a bad idea :) Deffenetly an interesting feature with new elements. He clearly states possible infection and exposure when it rains :) That doesnt sound like "without consequenses"true but if you get infected from being scratched...putting the guts on is suicide AND wouldn't work due to the "also the infected check for symptoms and care little for looks and smell (going with 28 days later here)" part

byrgesen 1341 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) It really comes down to, what kind of zombies are in DayZ?We dont know, we can only speculate tbh. Although they clearly got great eyesight and hearing. You cant just say "because this happened in 28 days later, its what happening here", you simply dont know that.First clue to that would be 28 days later was in brittain, DayZ is russian look-a-like, there a big reason to believe its 2 completely different viruses...I also wanna ask if you have looked at the zombies and how "undead" they look tbh, they are decaying. GotBeanZ 45 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) @zombie_loreSprocket has mentioned repeatedly that his idea of the monsters in the game are not zombies, they're "Infected". And yet everybody's referring to them as zombies in the Mocap session video. Maybe someone will have the brains to ask him instead of arguing about things they don't understand...Edit: Lol, NeedzBeanz beat me to it, so TLDR:lead dev uses infected films for inspiration, says the zombies are INFECTED. Evilution 66 Posted March 1, 2013 Great idea! But chance of infection should be high like you said with infection setting in between 30-60 minutes. which would require the correct antibiotics and maybe they could add decontamination zones that the military put in place leading up to the infection/evacuation period with pressure washers etc that you have to make it to within the alloted time plus get the correct antibiotics. It would make looting interesting definayely very high risk high reward.
victusmortuus 1074 Posted March 1, 2013 zombie parts...stink like shit....infected parts....stink like shit and infect you...so yesInfection is a big part of SA. This could cause possible Infection and if you like you would HAVE to have a spare set of clothes to change into and burn your organ set.

Clearly the OP said great ideas on how this can be balanced. Must walk while wearing guts to not agro zombies. More than enough to balance it. How far/fast can you get while walking? Not that far. Great idea.
Maloney (DayZ) 26 Posted March 2, 2013 You sir may have my beans. Excellent idea, but I still think they should be able to detect you at a very close range, otherwise things may get too easy. And perhaps it could be a craftable suit? Combining a Quarantine suit like this with zombie guys over the top could stop infection.
Talibambi 119 Posted March 2, 2013 The zeds can detect the difference between humans and infected even at night in pitch black conditions. So something is up with their methods of detection. Perhaps scent detection does play a role in if they consider you food or not. Regardless of how they detect, it should be easy to just have a "pretend zombie walk" which they wont agro to :PBut this just leaves you open to people shooting you while you walk through the zombies, leading you to have to run to avoid enemy fire, leading to the zombies going all "AHA HE IS CHEATING! GET HIM!".

thesodesa 99 Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) I much prefer the idea of zeds reacting to you depending on how sudden your movements are when you are in their field of view, and how much noise you are making. With this approach I think the reasons why zeds don't aggro each other could be justified more easily and the implementation would be easier as well. But then again, should the zeds attack each other or not?If zeds were aggravated by sudden movements and loud noises surely they could accidentally start massive fights between each other. One zed sees a survivor running, screams, and other zeds are lured to the location of the noise instead of the survivor, assuming they haven't seen the survivor( now running for his life and becoming the target because the running animation would trigger zed aggro) as well.If suddenness of movements in addition to loud sounds was the main mechanic behind the aggravation of zeds, players would have more options when it came to dealing with them. For example, you could fire your gun to lure zeds to a location in a city, and while they are investigating the noise you go and loot some buildings. Remember that zeds are going to be able to run indoors so a mechanic like this would be very welcome in my opinion. While loot is going to be more plentiful in the SA because of more open buildings ,the fact that players would have to walk if they wanted to get across an open area full of zombies would expose them to possible snipers. it would balance things out nicely methinks.
