I prefer Bandicam. It does not take so much resourses like fraps and it's far better imho. The customisablity for the recording options is outstanding. You can set presets and everything. Plus the export of the recording is far more HDD friendly. I have 1hour footage in one video only taking 4.2 Gb of space.

Bandicam gets another vote from me.

While FRAPS is very good for outstanding quality (because it records uncompressed video), it's generally a lot better to use other programs like Bandicam, unless you're one who plans to heavily edit their gameplay videos and has a lot of HDD space reserved for recording. (10 minutes of video can easily take up to 4-8GB on FRAPS.)

I recently started using Open Broadcaster, because it has features I wanted (full-screen game capture) that were only in the premium versions of xsplit and fraps. My only complaint is that right out of the box, so to speak, you don't have a ton of control over where the audio can be pulled from, i.e. i have mumble running and all my buddies chat gets thrown into my streams/recordings and i can't only choose dayz audio.

It's free, open source, and generally awesome. Hasn't impacted my FPS too much, and i'm streaming at compressed 720p video to my twitch.tv account: http://www.twitch.tv/bisonman80/new

I like twitch/justin.tv because its free, and it stores all my streams, and even has a nice little highlight feature where you can cut large videos into small ones to show to friends.

I can't say much for fraps, but I really dislike xsplit just for dayz streaming.

If you just want to record to your HDD, Open Broadcaster or FRAPS seem like the best options. For editing, that's a whole other issue. Lots of different camps on what's the best video editing software. I personally like Adobe software, and have experience with Adobe's Premiere (more for films), and After Effects (more for short vid editing, special effects stuff), But honestly, there's a ton of good software out there for video editing. Take your pick.

Once you've captured it with recording software, then edited it to your liking, it's ready to upload to youtube and elsewhere.

Lol, I got FRAPS, was recording Doom with it, paused it and left for about 6 hours. It tried to install a game the next day but I couldn't. No hard-drive space. The video took up ~260 gigs -.-

I've used fraps in the past, but I mostly use bandicam now. It's really simple to use, and I never have any problems with it.

I own fraps but I might check into Bandicam just because I feel fraps could slow my FPS which i can't have when in the heat of battle.

You can record with MSI Afterburner as well.

Haven't used it for recording - mainly stick to using it for diagnostics etc.

DxTory and download the x264vfw codec. Unbelievable quality and minimal disc usage. Much better than the lagarith codec.
