slivniku@gmail.com 93 Posted February 25, 2013 Not sure if this was suggested before (couldn't find any topic); Most responsible firearm owners keep their guns safely locked away, so it would be logical to find (RANDOM and RARE) in rural areas a gun safe in a building which would contain multiple different civilian weapons and corresponding ammo. So if we find one - jackpot. However, gun safe as such, would be really hard to open, would require a crowbar an a lot of effort, maybe explosives, finding a code on a piece of paper somewere in town (or on a zombie) etc.would have to be really rare (1-3 on server restart) and hard to open as hellNot sure how hard it would be to implement to the game thoughopinions?
Axxassin 49 Posted February 25, 2013 I like this idea it would finally give a use for the otherwise useless crowbar..

slivniku@gmail.com 93 Posted February 25, 2013 well, with enough time and effort it could be done (they are not like bank vaults) and after all it is a game..maybe there should be different kinds of safes
joe_mcentire 2074 Posted February 25, 2013 i see your gun safes and add my "destroyable" containers which could be lockers, doors, chests, cabinets would love to see this.
slivniku@gmail.com 93 Posted February 25, 2013 if we expend o the idea, anything of value (be it guns, ammo, watches,...) would probably be hidden or locked away - not lying on the table/couch
gibonez 3633 Posted February 25, 2013 Great Idea. I would go further than that and recommend military loot be removed and the loot tables for all look be shared. There is little to no incentive to loot non military locations in dayz anymore.Civilian weapons are crap and everyone rushes to barracks and airfields for loot.Guns safes would be a good way to encourage looting in towns. Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted February 25, 2013 Its suprising how many people don't actually keep their guns in safes. We keep my shooting team 12 gauge in my closet, and all the other guns in my fathers room. But I like the idea of guns safes, but to be fair the loot should be of a higher grade than what you usually find laying around.
OrLoK 16186 Posted February 25, 2013 Hello there"One does not simply open a gunsafe"An interesting idea. New to me.In SA we had a gunsafe in a gun cellar. Two big doors to get through. No guns in there though. They were safely* kept under the beds.RgdsLoK*not safe.

OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted February 25, 2013 Well made safes cannot be opened simply by prying with a crowbar...You also cannot carry an engine and two car tires on foot over a mile, but, I accomplished that the other day too! B)
OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted February 25, 2013 In all honesty, I like this idea, and I do not like many suggestions for the SA. Would make weapons worthwhile to find, keep the realistic factors maxed, still make it difficult to find items (per how the SA is going about things), add an actual challenge to this puzzle-less game, and possibly even strain peoples minds  .I'm a gun owner IRL, a gun nut really... and I do in fact keep all of my firearms locked in a case at all times when not being used (except for my .45ACP Taurus pt145, which is kept in the nightstand next to the bed).I also really like the puzzle factor of finding a code on a paper in the house that could be hidden in a drawer or something, gets me kind of excited for this idea (hot and bothered :o ) lol. Adds kind of a... Resident Evil factor to DayZ, and not the shitty new ones either; the older, more puzzle based ones. You have my beans my good sir!
TacticalN29 89 Posted February 25, 2013 You also cannot carry an engine and two car tires on foot over a mile, but, I accomplished that the other day too! B)This is true. Also yes everyone says it's "responsible" to keep your guns in a safe, but there are a lot of people that don't.
OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted February 26, 2013 This is true. Also yes everyone says it's "responsible" to keep your guns in a safe, but there are a lot of people that don't.Thus, some houses having safes, some having guns laying around in things like closets. We can currently find all kinds of stuff. Enfields, DB's, Winchesters. and assorted handguns, just laying around.

They were safely* kept under the beds. You mean the dayz SA admins are testing? These safes shoul definetly be rare, maybe even disguisedAnd i didn't think you could just open one with a crowbar on the first try, say 15% chance of opening with crowba?maybe it would require two people with crowbars to open the safeContents should be higher grade, but still civilian type, the biggest reward would be a lot of ammo and mags

joe_mcentire 2074 Posted February 26, 2013 I also really like the puzzle factor of finding a code on a paper in the house that could be hidden in a drawer or something, gets me kind of excited for this idea (hot and bothered :o )I've made a thread up on this!! Finding special loot or items to use on other objects /in areas to unlock these which adds to a "natural quest-system" because you really want to open that locked locker or want to know what the letters on the paper mean.. slivniku@gmail.com 93 Posted February 26, 2013 If we will be able to write notes in the game I can imagine some b****** drooping a note with a random number in a drawer next to the safeImagine every other player finding the note trying to desperately open the safe with that number and wondering "why doesn't it work?" :D

joe_mcentire 2074 Posted March 1, 2013 could there something like in Fallout even be possible? all sorts of containers! yes yes and yes please!
hoik 415 Posted March 1, 2013 We keep my shooting team 12 gauge in my closet, and all the other guns in my fathers room.Lol :).As for the the OP. I think if these "missions/quests" are kept player driven then yes, it could be very fun. What if the safes themselves could be moved about, but with great difficulty. This could be taken to your camp/base so you can store valuables. If there were different types/levels of secure "chests" then you could end up with really interesting camps cobbled together from a large variety of items - and if they were genuinly hard to crack open, it may actually be possible to setup some type of store/trading post!Great idea with a lot of potential

slivniku@gmail.com 93 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) could there something like in Fallout even be possible? all sorts of containers! yes yes and yes please! It would seem that items will be spawned in cabinets and such, not sure if these cabinets will be closed so we would have to open doors to loot them; if yes, than locked cabinets and safes/vaults are just an upgrade of thatAs for the the OP. Being able to lug around an entire rotor assembly in your backpack or vest pocket doesn't make much sense. But yeah, having movable safes would be a good idea, as long as they are not completely foolproof. This way bambies that have stumbled upon a house/factory/firestation/any other structure that you have claimed as your own wouldn't be able to steal your things without proper equipment or the key code.
