A toggle movement button, like an autopilot

Recommended Posts

I would like to see an option to map a "toggle movement" key, which would act like holding down "w".

So the player's stance, and what movement mode they're in (walk/sprint), will still control how they move.

But it's just like an autopilot feature that lets you move forward hands-free.

With the size of the map, we do a lot of walking. Sometimes I want to recline from my table a bit, and just use my mouse in free-look mode to scan the horizon.

I've seen this in a few PC games, for example, Fallout: New Vegas.

In Arma II, I used to call in an AI driver to be my chauffeur, but with DayZ I think a toggle movement key would work well.

What do you guys think?

I'm definitely for it, I was hoping there was an auto-run feature when I first started playing. The immense landscape almost begs for it.

I was let down /sadpanda

As of right now:

Fix the beta-patch to start with steam and SHIFT+TAB and search the forums while running.

On second thought, it might also be nice to be able to toggle strafing, rolling and walking backwards.

So instead of just simulating holding down "w", the toggle movement key could lock in whatever movement the player is doing.

You don't have a autorun button? Just keep something small and heavy close and keep it on your W key ;)

holding W key is not so hard... if you have gaming mouse set its 4 or 5th button to walk...

this way you can use mouse only.

or use Adanteh suggestion, its tested by many gamers already! :D

When I had my joystick connected, I'd bound walk forward/backwards and drive forwards/backwards to throttle up/down.

Really good suggestion - an auto-run feature is the one thing I feel is really missing in the game. There's often a lot of terrain to cover, and my wussy little hands get pretty tired cramming down on "W" for long treks! :)

Here's my little trick.

1: keep W pressed

2: Open steam overlay while keeping W pressed

3: Let W go

4: Close steam overlay

5: ???

6: Profit

To stop running' date=' just press W again.

This man is a genious, some one give him a whole pie of his choice.

^ That tip makes me wish I had ArmA on steam.

To the OP, this is something that Rocket can't do. He may be able to submit the request to the programmers at BIS, but something tells me he's got a bazillion other requests in queue, heh.

*****************

If anyone wants to see this [KEY OPTION] in the future for A3-DayZ, please vote this up (green arrow when you login to dev-heaven).

More votes = More likely BIS will add the feature.

[suggestion] - Control - Toggle Forward [Key]

https://dev-heaven.net/issues/34879

*****************

Also, if you would be so kind as to vote for this, since most games give you the option to walk or run by default...

[suggestion] - Control - Always Walk [Option]

https://dev-heaven.net/issues/34878

Always wanted FPS style games to make the mouse scroll wheel control the speed of the character.Press once and you sprint, again and you walk while scrolling the wheel gives you all other speeds in between like jogging.
