Steam version and existing older install.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, been gone/not playing for several months just waiting for things to progress a bit while I did other things. Saw the steam thing pop up and figured I might want to get another taste of the game since I'm frustrated/bored with other things.

I have an existing steam arma install, then I have several patches old install of the mod.

Can I install the steam Dayz mod and it overwrite everything correctly? Or should I just wipe out all my installs and just re do arma2/arma2CO/dayzmod thru steam.

Apparently custom servers and mods has taken off? Does the browser window have anything to help me identify vanilla servers? (At least list that it's a different map?) Are there amazing custom servers out there that I should know about or is chernarius still the bee's knees.

Thanks for any info!

I'd recommend just downloading DayZCommander and installing the mod/patches that way tbh,

Hey everyone, been gone/not playing for several months just waiting for things to progress a bit while I did other things. Saw the steam thing pop up and figured I might want to get another taste of the game since I'm frustrated(And you think DayZ is going to help you with that?)/bored with other things.

The DayZ mod you get on Steam simply downloads the @DayZ folder into ...\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\ This means that it WILL NOT WORK if you download it to a different drive than which you installed ARMA 2: OA on. It keeps the vanilla version of DayZ updated, but disregards EVERYTHING else.

Apparently custom servers and mods has taken off? No. Custom servers and custom versions of the DayZ mod are still in, and are shown in the server browser. Only the non-DayZ related servers have been hidden. Does the browser window have anything to help me identify vanilla servers? (At least list that it's a different map?) Yes! Anything that is labeled as "DAYZ" as the Mission is the original DayZ, which are also the only servers you can play on, unless you install third-party mods manually or through updaters like DayZ Commander. Not that I wrote "DayZ" in all caps. This is important. Some missions are labeled as "dayz" or "DAYZ+," which are not vanilla versions. There are also Missions that also mention the map, like "DayZ Lingor," "DayZ Namalsk," "Celle," etc. Are there amazing custom servers out there that I should know about or is chernarius still the bee's knees. DayZ Namalsk.

Thanks for any info!

You're welcome.
