What weapons damage helicopters?

Recommended Posts

What weapons damage helicopters? Only grenades/armor penetrating sniper rifles, or do other weapons damage them as well?

I tried doing a search but could not find any info on this, so some information would be much appreciated.

Since I keep reading that M107's and AS50's are being taken out of loot tables for servers, I think it would be super one-sided to remove the only counter to the already-overpowered helicopters.

Thanks.

I find the cockpit glass of the osprey to be rather weak... Not too much protection.

Depends where you hit them! I once emptied 2 belts of M249 at the belly of the chopper and it didnt go down. XD But when i shot its tailrotor with a mag of M4 it span away and chrashed into the side of mountain! :P

LMGs. Or lots of small arms fire at once. Aim for the tail rotor, that makes the helicopter spin out of control if disabled.

This is probably your best bet. Sniper rifles and LMG's are the best, DMR, M14, M24, etc. do decent damage to the engine/tail.

I think any weapon will technically do damage. I watched a a guy blow up a chopper with an axe lmao.

I once heard that you could bring a chopper down with one makarov round

Aiming for the tail is a waste of time (It's possible to fly without one in arma if you know how), pilot and the fin just under the main rotor are the weakpoints :P

Yes, but HOW many people know how to fly that?

Less then 10%, most likely.

As a matter of fact, I have over 5 hours flying in ARMA and DayZ, and while I can somewhat control an out of control heli, any average survivor would crash near immediately or have to bail out.

I did some tests back when I was learning how to recover from a disabled tail rotor and it only took 3 makarov shots to disable it, so I would imagine one well placed 7.62 round would probably throw that pilot in a loot.

Wow thanks alot for all the quick and detailed responses guys! You answered my next question already, which is how much damage you would need to do, roughly, to bring one down.

Thanks again! Beans for all :P

Well, every firearm can damage helicopters. I took out the tailrotor of a little bird with a G17 a few weeks ago.

But anyway, speaking of the UH-1H/Huey...without M107s or AS50s, your best bet is a FAL/M14, or an LMG.

I don't think I've ever killed a helicopter, but I have destroyed a biplane. Not intentionally, as he kind of ran into my tractor and blew up.

Anything if you hit the right spots.

Main rotor, tail rotor, and the front glass.

If the pilot isn't shit, then this will only be a problem if they're stopped / landing.

If they're already moving forward, they'll learn rather quickly that speeding up diminishes the effect of a broken tail rotor.
