Bury your stuff

but tell me, whats the point on having a buried backpack if its going to disapear after you died?
To have a temporary stash, or a backup supply of ammo, or food, or meds, or anything you would use ANY method of storage for.

Just quick and easily hidden.

when you put things into a tent, if you died, the things you put into the tent won't disapear, why would this be different ?
Tents are currently exploited constantly. It pretty much defeats the purpose of creating a gruelling survival challenge when you load up a tent and just go there straight after spawn.

If you want loads of gear right off the bat, why are you playing DayZ?

if you remember you can only have a limited number of holes(buried stuff)at the same time?
This isn't a question?!

Yeah, there is really no point in burying stuff (or having tents, etc) if it disappears when you die. Nobody's going to run 10km to get a different gun or some ammo or food or whatever they have in their tent.

my idea would be:

yes to implementation of stashes and create a stash depending on, where you are:

  • forest --> foliage and twigs building a small pile
  • open grass land --> dirt, mud and grass building a small pile
  • ...

This all in a way that you can see them, by looking thoroughly, but not to easy when just rushing through an area. My idea would be a slow weathering effect, so that this stashes eventually a) reveal clearly visible your loot or b )get destroyed and along with them your loot disappears.

  • can build stashes only when a shovel is available
  • higher chance, that loot won't get destroyed/lost, but will be more visible when stash is destroyed by use of tarps, plastic bags to wrap it in.

The point is, you will still have tents - if you want stuff for keeps in the afterlife, you put em in a tent, and you risk the stuff being found by other players

If you bury stuff, it's short term, eg when you go looting you leave some stuff at the edge of the forest for whatever reason (you make place for loot, you leave your M107 behind so you don't looks so hostile, whatever). If it remains afetr death, it basically defeats the purpose of permadeath as nobody will find it; and nobody will use tents anymore

Just real quick:

The space in one individual hole argument is irrelevant. So what if I can only put five cans into a hole? I'll dig another. I still have a shovel. And there's no way Rocket would make a "YOU ALREADY DUG FIVE HOLES" pop-up.

thats why i talked about the need of a backpack to put you stuff on it and then bury it ,

yes its possible but difficult to have 10 hiden backpack cause you would need to carry all these backpack with you and before that , find all these backpack

and it would be useless to have as many caches when you knpw that if you die all the stuff you buried would disapear!

This is a great idea. Tents are near useless on a server that people actually play on. If a server consistently has 50 people playing, that's hundreds if not a thousand different people playing on that server. The maps are big but they just aren't that big where you can hide a tent (That sticks out like a sore thumb) from a thousand people. Last night I was trying to find a good spot to set up my tent. Looked at the map, found 4 different spots. At each spot I visited there were already tents and/or vehicles hidden.

It would be nice to have a small spot where you could stash some stuff, and be relatively sure it is going to be there when you come back.

Having your buried cache disappear when you die is stupid. What would be the point?

and again, what's the point of permadeath if you can get your stuff back after death, without anyone else being able to find it?

When you die, the whole point od dayz is that you start anew; so how does your new character remember where the previous character hid all hist superduper stuff?

And no, I don't believe in being reborn and all the other mumbojumbo

but permadeath or not, somebody have to find your cache someday just imagine that you have been told there is a stash close to the electro church, so you go there and you see evidence of a buried cache, just because you can see it, no matter how you can see it, so you take your entrenching tool and take what you want and just fly away.. but this stash was built by you yesterday before you died and respawn

I think this would make DayZ just a bit too much like a pirate game rather than a zombie apocalypse game.

I can already picture people making photoshopped images and jokes about pirate-related things and DayZ.

We have map markers already, and once I picked up a map from a dead guy whose map had a marker in it, so most of that part is done already (if anyone would be stupid enough to mark his tent).

Loot a map, get his treasure. Instead of gold coins, you just get AS50s and NVGs, vehicles etc.

I already see a YouTube video coming about this.
