Mancspartan (DayZ) 0 Posted February 18, 2013 I've just started Dayz, and am really enjoying it, even tho I'm a death magnet!! I filled my backpack with supplies, left it in a (hopefully) safe place, then went off to gather more supplies. When I got back to my safe place, my pack was gone. That's all in the game I suppose, but I would like to know please how to store multi backpacks worth of loot? Does this involve building some sort of camp, and if so, how do I go about doing that? Thanks in advance.Cheers
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted February 18, 2013 I think all items should stay in-world until server restart. So the most likely thing that happened is that somebody found your backpack. To prevent your stuff from disappearing, find a tent(they look like rolledup duffle-bags on the ground), or a vehicle.Tents stay in the server no matter what, unless you die. After that the tents survive for about a week on their own, unless you interact with them(?).Same thing with vehicles. Except the vehicles will disappear after a week even if you haven't died, unless you interact with it.
beastoverlord 574 Posted February 18, 2013 Yeah, backpacks will disappear on a server restart, which is usually a couple times a day... so your pack will only last until then if you leave it on the ground.
Synix 33 Posted February 18, 2013 I should probably throw in as a side note to make sure you SAVE your tents/vehicles.
boneboys 7988 Posted February 18, 2013 Tents & vehicle saves are auto since 1.7.4.

wolf urine 3 Posted February 18, 2013 (edited) Well just be careful what you leave in tents with the latest patch - pretty certain there are some glitches with tent contents and even the tents being lost.My tent contents vanished twice on a private server reset - and I'm pretty certain nobody looted - stash there 5 min before reset and gone 5 min after :(Then tested it again with some old tin cans - who wants to loot thatEdit:Note that if you leave back packs containing loot in a tent the pack contents do vanish on server reset. This is not a glitch - always have done as far as I am aware. Death_Dealer 3155 Posted February 18, 2013 Not sure what is meant by the above. How do I SAVE my tents/vehicles?Tents & vehicle saves are auto since 1.7.4.1Vehicles are automatically saved when you enter them. Tents are automatically saved when placed. Both do sometimes disappear, but they usually come back after a server restart.
DazTroyer 227 Posted February 18, 2013 I don't bother with tents as they usy get raided. I find it best to carry everything you need and stock up on your travels.
wolf urine 3 Posted February 18, 2013 (edited) I don't bother with tents as they usy get raided. I find it best to carry everything you need and stock up on your travels. That's right...don't rely on tents.I usually do have a couple though stashed remotely inland from South and East coasts, and drop in the odd bit of useful duplcate gear - like if you find a second GPS.Can be usefull in times of the inevitable respawn when you cannot get back to your rotting corpse :)There are some locations where they can go pretty undetected by conventional means...but then some players have ways of finding these things easier than others >:( Edited February 18, 2013 by wolf urine
I vant Sandvich! 2 Posted February 19, 2013 Tents are great for stashing supplies (food, morphine, matches), but must be hidden well.Don't stash anything mission critical as they likely will be found. Supplies to get you on your feet after a death are a good bet.
herrjon 478 Posted February 20, 2013 As people have said, you need a tent or a vehicle to store stuff over restart. Both have their pros and cons, but for long-term storage, I prefer the tent. It's small, green, and can't be driven away. Don't get me wrong, vehicles are very useful for many reasons, but for storage, they can be found and taken or simply hacked away, and can blow up randomly during your goings about. Ideally you'd have both, with the vehicle just carrying extra food/drink and ammo, saving space for loot you find, with a tent(s) hidden carefully to hold the more important stuff and extra caches of supplies. but you take what you can get.As for where to find these, tents can be found typically in supermarkets, but do spawn in any residential building. As for vehicles, refer to http://dayzdb.com/map to find general spawn points. Be sure to look in the area around those locations, as it's not quite exact. However, don't expect them to be there, as players usually nab the more sought after ones quickly, and each point is only a chance of spawning a vehicle. Also note that boats and bicycles don't have storage space and motorcycles only hold 5 items, no backpacks or weapon/tools.
ShokeR (DayZ) 29 Posted February 20, 2013 You will have to find a tent, and place it somewhere on the map.Do not place it like in the middle of the map becasue players will find it , place it where players never travel. If you are new to Dayz, try to place your tent close to the coast so you can access it easly.Tents are now very buggy, it apper \ disapper every server restart, so if you dont find your tent wait for the server to restart and it will apper again!good luck!
