New 80M aggro radius.

Recommended Posts

I havnt been on the forums for months, but today I decided I would try and play some Namalsk since I had enough of hearing about it. Now im sure it will be the same in Chernarus. But this new aggro radius is completely fucked. I ran for half an hour weaving through trees to lose 90% of the train following me for that 1 zombie to see me and start the train up again. I could understand 10 meters even 20 meters, but 80M? what are these zombies psychic or something? 80M is almost a whole grid box as each grid box is 100M x 100M If I ever meet the guy who thought this up I'm going to punch him in the throat, because he obviously don't play the mod himself.

How about this, we both meet in a field, you stand 80 meters away from me, and I make the most horribly loud and disgusting zombie noises ever. If you can hear them whatsoever then whoever made the suggestion gets to punch YOU in the throat.

It makes zombies a threat, like they were always supposed to be. You can't just sprint around not giving fucks anymore.

So are you saying zombies should only aggro after seeing you from only 10-20m away?

Yeah, let's look at this from a realistic perspective.

These 'zombies' are infected humans. The infection probably doesn't fuck with their eyesight.

A normal person could spot another person from AT LEAST four hundred metres away. At that range, it's kinda grainy. Kinda hard to distinguish features.

at 200 metres, you can tell what shirt they're wearing, if they've got a watch on, if they have sunglasses on, how they're walking, what colour shoes they're wearing.

At 80 metres, you could almost figure out what their fucking eye colour is. 80 metre agro range is NOTHING.

If the game were realistic, a zombie would spot you sprinting from FOUR HUNDRED metres away. Why? Because zombies don't sprint. They move and shamble. Anything sprinting is prey, or another zombie CHASING prey. Either way, MEAL TICKET!

Maybe you should learn to use stealth instead of running through everywhere and getting a massive zombie train?

No i'm saying zombies that are 50M away around buildings shouldn't be aggoring to me when one 5M away sees me.

You didnt even read my post did you, it's not about zombies SEEING you it's about the ones that CANNOT SEE YOU that is aggroing to you because of the 80M "communication" range.

Shame the majority of the people arguing against the OP couldn't be bothered to read what he/she was actually complaining about. Basically in 'theory' if you have a 10 zombies aggroing you, you can't lose them unless you lose all of them. Losing 9 of them will mean that the 1 that you didn't lose will call on the other 9 (and any others in the area too) to reaggro you.

Thank you someone who has a brain and knows how to use it. That's right. I ran for half an hour trying to lose a train of zombies which by the end when I just up and said fuck it and let them kill me I had about 15-20 zombies chasing me, I could lose 90% of them but then as soon as one of them got sight of me BOOM back to all of them chasing me, and because of the new combat timer on zombie chase you can't even drop aggro that way. I swear to god does the community dev team even play the game? This is so far from rockets vision can barely call this Dayz anymore. more like "DayZ: Project full retard." Like I said I can understand the zombies communicating 10M MAYBE 20M but 80M is a whole grid box.

Eh? Your not doing it right, yes if zeds have LOS then they do agro easier but I've found that they lose interest and stop chasing if you break LOS long enough just like pre patch even quicker in some cases. From my experience once you lost the zed that saw you once it gets to the last 'footstep' it heard it communicates with the rest of the train and causes a chain affect of de-agro.

I honestly havent been affected by the ai changes but maybe that because I really make an effort to avoid zed agro (waiting till their moving in a diff direction etc..)

I agree that 80m is slightly too large a radius, but I think the idea itself is great. It just needs some tweaking, which it may well get TBH, they're working on a hotfix.

Also, could we refrain from threatening the community devs please? Lol.

Also there should be a difference with Agro and Attention. I feel the AI should react differently to different stimuli. Like a gunshot is a fight response. And then hearing someone run is only turn and make your way towards the sound and then agro if needed. Hearing other zombies should also be turn and make your way towards.

It's one thing to improve the AI to make then think better. So that running through bushes and around buildings doesn't make you lose them easily. But it's another to use different mechanics that a player can't control to establish these improvements.

It's clearly not in the vision of Rocket to make the zombies communicate like a squad. He wanted to get rid of all that bullshit. Make them streamlined: See an enemy - fight; Hear something - investigate.

My opinion of the 80 meter aggro radius is that while it is logical that zeds within that range react to another zombies aggro shriek, it is completely illogical that they come sprinting with such pinpoint accuracy and know exactly where you are/were at the time. At best, they should come scampering over to investigate, slowly but surely surrounding you and making it harder and harder to retreat, whereas they only start sprinting if they actually see you. In addition, zombies seem to have only two modes now, rather than investigating anything, they either are idle and wander around the town like good little Zeds, or they are fast and furious zombies with their eyes on a delicious meal on two legs.. even if they haven't actually seen you. And if that's not actually the case and they still do investigate and I just haven't managed to do it correctly, what's the point of using any form of distraction for the zombies if they automatically aggro you or anyone else the moment they see a player, or in this case, a zombie 80 meters AWAY from them, behind two buildings and several trees sees a player?

Your lack of skill disgusts me. Seriously.... brake LOS, zombie train stops. Sure they follow you forever if you are dumb enough not to zigzag between trees, through houses, hop over fences. Haven't had any problems dropping zombie-agro, even with over 30 of them running after me.

1.) Namalsk hasn't even updated yet to 1.7.5.1's version of the game.

2.) Aggro ranges and zed-to-zed communication ranges have been improved in 1.7.5.2.

I like the idea, but I have to agree that the new patch kind of pushes it past some sort of limit.

Right? People just make shit up left and right on this site to justify absoulutely everything in the game, good or bad. Unbelievable, I'm starting to seriously wonder about the age demographic of this game....

The point was reasonably valid, sure it was exaggerated, but the meaning was the same. You can still see that guy on the football field, so why can't a zed? If you're sprinting around like a madman I could probably see you from quite far. Ripped from google:

'Dust, water vapour and pollution in the air will rarely let you see more than 20 kilometres (12 miles), even on a clear day.'
