DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

Recommended Posts

@anodin Wasteland is nothing like DayZ so no it's not what they are looking for. Open your bloody eyes and stop denying the obvious, people do like this type of play, it may not be to your tastes but thats life deal with it. If they dident those servers would be empty but there not.

It was a legit question, why do you seem butthurt and aggressive ?

I admit there's no zombie, but you put emphasis on PvP, if you want early access to gear, vehicles and PvP, I suggest you actually try Wasteland as an Indie, it quite fits your perspective of Dayz.

Also there's a difference between Private hives (often whitelisted) meant for more security, and Private hives with custom settings that takes a different path from the DayZ meta.

I prefer to spawn without a weapon of any kind, but I don't get all indignant and huff and puff about 'DayZ purity' when I pick a server that gives you starter weapon or any kind of other kit. There have been times I've dropped all starter kit, even on official servers, to play purely from scratch. There have been times I've kept my starter AK(some Celle server) and ran around PVP'ing with the rest of the nutters. I do miss the nights though. The group I play with... the Fogeyz... have 3 servers running now on daylight only. Can't get people on otherwise and it's tough when our group includes people from Europe and the US.

I've been playing since the middle of May 2012, so I've been able to experience DayZ in its earliest incarnations. I like the mods of the mod that have come out. I applaud the creativity and enjoy their creations as much as I enjoy the team Rocket creation. As I understood it, originally Rocket wanted DayZ stay confined on official servers in order to have one place to collect the data he needed. I don't recall reading that he had any particular beef with modders...considering he is one.

I've been thinking about the story though. In what state was the world prior to washing up on a beach in Chernarus? Did the entire apocalypse occur while I was floating lifeless in the ocean, leaving 50 or less humans and only a handfull of working vehicles on the island? In other words, what prior knowledge did i have about the state of the world? If I knew a virus was decimating the population prior to jumping in my escape boat I imagine I would have some kind of kit ready in a backpack including some kind of weapon, food, drink, bandages, navigating equipment. If my boat took damage and started going down I'd have likely grabbed it, before getting knocked out by the wreckage and ultimately washing up on the shore. No matter where you play you start with a backpack, so it makes sense in terms of the game world. Was I floating out there so long that military weaponry and war machines would be gone or degraded? Was I a soldier in civvies, maybe, on a warship that went down? If so i'd definitely have guns and nav in my pack. Anyway, that's how I approach the loadouts and loot available on various servers. They just have a different story to tell.

I took the time to look around on dayz commander. You guys are right. They are all 24/7 daylight servers, have 1000+ vehicles, or spawn you with ak-74's. The official hive servers, almost 0 players on most. I tried out DayZ+, I think it's brilliant. So far dayz+ is the only place i've been able to find true dayz servers on. (one...)

Well most of private hives are like CoD-Z or GTA-Z but there are few pearls, you just have to find them. (just remember to don't loot admin's camp, headshot him or steal his chopper, cause you will get banned ;) )

Man you guys all play on some terrible private hives if admin abuse is really that prevalent, search around for a good private hive I can even think of several posters in here who have a great private hive in their signature where you would never be banned for killing an admin legit (Balota Buddies a great set of private servers).

The one issue I have with the idea that modding of the mod is bad is that it has sustained this mod for quite some time. If I was left with only vanilla Chernarus with zero modification I would not play nearly as much as I currently play. I had a ton of fun on vanilla DayZ but playing only that since late May would burn me out completely on that map and that experience, the variety of maps has added value to DayZ that continues to draw people into the game. Even a few slight modifications can add so much to these servers, add some barracks around the map to make more than one point of interest and some extra vehicles to fix up. If the server is healthy having the minimum amount of vehicles usually means there are no vehicles to be found, adding a few extra seems like a realistic addition to gameplay (not the servers with 500 vehicles all fully repaired). Not a huge fan of starting gear but I will say I enjoy a few modifications to the server that add to the environment.

Its not like it's just private hives either. Ever since they stopped policing the Hive some public servers are just as bad. I spawned on some random public server the other day with an Mk48, M9SD and all the tools. What's the point?

Pointless thread. Clearly the admin of the server wants a different mod than you.

So exit, and find the server you like.

It's a sandbox game, some admins like more or less sand, some have buckets and spades preinstalled.

Accept, enjoy the diversity.

Try Balotabuddies.net we're a white listed community, all kinds of crazy mod deviations. I guarantee you'll find something you like, or your money back.

I agree that there is a place for everyone and there should be a a server that suits your needs. One of my points was a lot of servers arent properly described and you only find out upon logging in that it isnt what you were expecting.

Perhaps servers should say Original in their descriptions so it can be filtered in DayZ Commander as even "official" servers arent always what you expect.

Also i just wanted to know why players play these servers and the feeling is it is either to goof around or you dont want the hassle of gearing up. Both valid if that's what you want - just not for me.

It's always good to have a mess around server. When you're tired of regular DayZ, and just want to have some fun, then you can join a server with 500 vehicles and one that spawns you with AS50's and just run around and fuck around. This game messes with your head sometimes, and you always need somewhere to relax

And I'm jealous of that beard :)

Well said, couldn't have said it better.

Nice to have the option to just fuck around after being immersed in countless hours of tense DayZ-edness.

I usually play on those kind of servers with my mates.

Crawling through the mud and finding that one can of beans is great and all, but sometimes you need to let loose and race SUVs or go as fast as you can through a town with a helicopter.

EDIT: Or, like an Isladula server I play on add a shit ton of vehicles to the airfields, restart the server, and have a battle royale in the skys.

Tell rocket that he should implement a system where the longer you're alive, the longer your beard.

I would buy the SA just for that feature.

DemonGroover I see your point, but there is also the counter-point. When something like DayZ is released into the wilds it will inevitably change as per the users of that server. How people advertise that server is a different matter and TBH the only servers that should have the official tag are those hosted by Bohemia or an officially sanctioned Server provider. As for the rest they probably should have some thought put into the title, but at the end of the day they are trying to get people to join them, rather than care about titles, so they tend to stretch the truth a bit.

Recently I've been playing on Taviana. Mainly because that's where my friends are currently playing and also because it's a change from Chenarus. Not that Chenarus is bad, more that it's a very depressing locale. Taviana is a bit less depressing with bright yellow fields and white mountains to break up the drab grey/brown monotony that is most of Chenarus. However the other day on the private server we play on, loads of vehicles were added. This really did make things pretty tedious, because all everyone was doing was trying to fly light aircraft, AC130's or Osprey's. It lost that challenge feel. In some ways fuel needed to be limited more, so flying that Osprey would chew through fuel like a real Osprey would, yet without any fuel being refined to Aircraft grade, you wouldn't be able to fly it for long until you went and got some more refined fuel. Problem is who's manning the refinery's or the oil rigs...

So back to the point, in a survival game, having everything on a plate removes the survival aspect. Which can diminish the feel of the game. Not in a bad way necessarily but in a different way. It changes focus and loses direction. Though a realistic scenario for an inner city would end with everyone trying to escape to the wilderness, the situation for Chenarus would be a little different. Nothing more than a small city is there, so mostly everything would be damaged through infection of the people. Which leads to questions as to how to develop a meaningful survival aspect beyond "get gun, get beanz..."

Sigh, why can't people just live and let live? People play as they want so they find servers that fill their needs. If you don't like a particular server go look for another that suits you better People that complain about private hive servers and tout the benefits of the vanilla servers sound like pretentious hipsters.

Because live and let live just isn't what people do in the world of DayZ.

Anyway pass the slippers and brandy, this hipster needs a rest on his rocking chair.

The plain fact is that Rocket abandoned the Mod to focus on the standalone and the hackers took over forcing people to go to private hives to have any kind of an enjoyable gaming experience. Then the private server owners started modifying their servers to get people to play on them. The wheel keeps turning...

@trichome

I think it is you who will disappointed with the SA when it comes out if you think it is going to be just like the mod.

Having everything gifted to you on a plate is not what the game will be about.

The game will be tougher not easier.

I got no problem you playing your personal dayz lite just make sure your server description lets of know to stay away.

First off I never said I wanted everything gifted to you on a plate?????? I said variety is good and I stick to that.

And btw our server setup has expert mode, 30 vehicles, bandage, painkillers and torch starting loadout, direct chat only, no 3dp, no ch, no nt on namalsk with bloodsuckers and evr.

If you think that's getting stuff gifted to you on a plate here have some :beans: :)

Personally I think the huge number of private server options has killed the game to some degree.

Its the one thing I think consoles have over pc games. You but a game for the 360, and thats what you get. Whether you like it or you don't, you have no choice but to play the game one way. To me this is a good thing. By this I'm not talking about playstyle, its about what the environment makes available to you.

The idea of DayZ was to create a very specific environment. The more start options you have the more it waters down that environment.

Once people play on a server that gives them all those elusive weapons then they get used to playng like that and its very hard to go back to vanilla DayZ and killing zombies with a hatchet. Its also a contributing factor into why no one tries to stay alive. Because they don't need to. They just start again with all the gear.

The whole point of DayZ is the struggle to find those weapons, and by playing on a server that just throws them at you is as good as cheating. Its not surprising that so many people started playing wasteland.

Anyone who played the original Elite (sorry to those too young to have played it) will know how rewarding it is to spend time in a game world and to progress and climb up through the ranks. The sense of achievement is huge. But if there had been the option to have as much money as you want, or any ship you want etc. It would never have been the classic that it is. Its because you wouldn't need to play the game.

Thats just what has happened to DayZ. People aren't playing it anymore because we've got far too used to games giving us "options".

What I would like to see for the SA is nothing but the proper game as it was intended. If they allow it to be modded or have private hive server options then it will go the same way as the mod. Keep it pure and could go down in history as an all time classic.

I dont agree that you should be able to play a "casual" version of DayZ either. If you want some time out from it, then play something else by all means. Just not DayZ. I remember playing Dead Space 1 and being really affected by its atmosphere, even to the point that I would say to other people "Thats one scary game, you have to try it!" Imagine then, if they tried it on some casual setting where you could just walk through killing all with ease.

DayZ should remain in our minds and memory as a harsh game to play. So that choosing to play it means you're always in for a stressful time.

from my point of view, the only servers that i like are ones where you spawn in with a basic weapon and load out. Lets face it, who the hell would go to a zombie outbreak with nothing on them lol.

Didn't read the replies. Read the OP.

It's like this: You spawn with weapons, find vehicles easier, and get everything easier so you can go out and shoot other players faster. Mystery solved.

Servers like that are for PvP, and the CoD kiddies who don't have the required attention span to actually play a survival game.

You spawn on a beach. Who knows how you got there? Some would say you should start with nothing. Where i'm from i wouldnt be able to just grab a gun on the way out my front door.

Yeah if i want lots of gear and vehicles, ill play the wasteland mod. DayZ is for cherishing every box of matches you find, having 5 rounds left and 3 enemies, and for finding that vehicle spawn 10k out in the dark without waypoints.

Start with nothing sounds good :D

On the grab a gun on the way out your front door remark... I dunno. We gave a friend of mine a "zombie survival pack" birthday present :D Backpack with a crowbar and a hatchet strapped to it (keep in mind, this was before I even noticed DayZ), filled with toilet paper rolls, canned food, a leatherman toolset, sewing kit, flashlight, compass, a survival knife, hospital grade medical supplies (from bandages to prescription painkillers - dont ask, dont tell), cable ties, a roll of duct tape, matches and a lighter, cigarettes, one of those fold-to-tiny-size sleeping bags and a copy of one of those "Zombie Survival Guide" books. I think he's set up pretty good there ;) We had all kinda lazied out on getting him a proper gift, so we scrambled what we had on the last day... turned out to be a lot.

Damn, that sounds like an awesome setup.
