wait or late? what if next gen consoles come?

I don't understand this poll. In a years time next gen consoles will probably already be out. So why would they then decide to start development on a version for "current gen" when it would already be outdated. That would make no sense. They won't need to wait because by the time they start development on a console version, new consoles will already be out.
