How about contaminating food with zed blood? It would give whoever ate the infection. If you want to even the odds, maybe you can find a vaccine that prevents the last of humanity from turning. Though it would be extremely hard to find. You could also poison food with cyanide. Since, they're really isn't a use for it anymore, you might as well use weed killer and bug spray to poison the last of us. It would make you think before finding a random piece of meat on the ground and eating it. Don't worry about being poisoned too much because the poisoning materials are incredibly hard to find.

It will wind up like borderlands. When you end your friends find awesome loot, you start killing each other for it.

How about adding bricks as weapons? You'd be able to club enemies and throw them at crap. It would do pretty hefty damage considering if its thrown right, it could cave in your skull or give you a concussion. I'm going out on a limb here, but maybe you'd be able to craft things with them. You could make a makeshift hammer or something.

Heavy pistols are stronger versions of pistols. Hence the word heavy. How about adding an .44 AutoMag? It's a larger caliber semi-automatic pistol. It has the power of a magnum but they are really rare to find and the ammunition for them is really scarce.

How about adding air horns? You could use them to attract zombies or to draw players in and ambush them. They are incredibly loud and have a certain sound range. You could also signal players for help with them.

I know it sounds offshoot but what about zip lines? Imagine you're on a mountain. You've got a long trek to go, but you see a zipline. It can take you straight to a nearby town at the base of the mountain. It would be easy picking if you wanted to kill other players or you can destroy the zip line instead.

How about exploding zombies? I know it sounds unrealistic but dayz has zombies, so you're going to have to break realism sometime. Anyway, they have a small blast range and they have suicide vests. Maybe they were dead terrorists. When you kill them, they explode. They would be rare to encounter so don't worry too much.

If you ever been in an firefight with several people, you know it gets pretty hectic. If a bullet hits a car, an alarm should go off. We are going for realism, right? It would atract zombies and it would keep going on until the car battery dies or until it is destroyed. This would affect how people approach open area encounters. You don't want to get swarmed by zeds while getting shot by a winchester
