DayZ Devblog 4th February 2013

Recommended Posts

I bet you guys believed in a release in december 2012

I believed we would have got a fairly buggish alpha going by that Rocket seemed very panicked that he HAD to have a version out by December.

Damn you Fraggle !

I know this sounds selfish coming from someone that’s never played the game and is happy to wait till late this year even early next year (Elite Dangerous)

I watch streams on twich and you pick up on problems that spoil the current mod. Hacking being a massive issue, that DSync that pops up is terrible also.

I look forward to a genuine finished game rather than a half baked rushed super mod standalone. Rockets genuine enough not to show us anything till he’s happy with it. Every time they lock something done as done and happy they can move on while other things are needing finished and it will add to the game.

Problem is not to make promises or imply things heavily when he can’t deliver like a blog every week and I say that with respect. I genuinely feel he just does not have what he want to share ready yet.

DayZ SA is like an addictive substance, We are given a little, then we crave for more.

Sometimes the dealer is in, sometimes he is playing KSP.

When we can't get a fix, we go a little crazy.

(Of course I mean that in a very nice manner)

In the video Rocket implied there would be dev blog videos every monday. Did I read too far into his comments? It's tuesday and still no new blog.

DayZ SA will be the best thing released this year despite all the naysayers

Rocket said they would try and release an update every Friday but not at the expense of making progress on development.

And we know neither if there is any progress nor if there actually is a Dev Blog!

End of the day rocket is busy making history.

I would love to see this place after the release of the standalone.

All the kids praising Rocket are going to nail the poor guy to the wall if something is not working right after they have payed for the game.Modding is OK but as soon as people pay something for it ,even a small ammount of money and the stuff is not working as it should people are known to tend and lean towards to grab pitchforks and torches. So pull your socks up Mr.Dean you are going to need that.

i wonder how they are doing their motion capturing sessions.

using real stuff or just acting like doing something?

for example when recording the eating animation of beans.

is the actor opening and eating a real can of beans?

with a spoon or only fingers?

what about bandaging, blood transfusions and so on?

would be very interesting.

I don't expect a finished game, when it is released, with updates and additional material working its way into the game, I for one will expect cock-ups now and again.

I can take solace it will be fixed faster than the Mod, due to paying customers. testing the updates before release will ensure updates don't break the game any more, they will have time to work on fixing quicker as there will be just a few working on it like the mod.

All i ask for is a working game that makes me want to play it.

I would love a special edition with some of the behind the scenes footage in, But as mentioned before no hard copies would rule that out.

You know rocket if you released some footage like this people would be happy! it's an update either way, I hope you are documenting the development!

Considering how many people still believe, that SA will release as a polished, complete game, you can bet on that.

But there are still some people out there, who know that they are waiting for an alpha release, that will be buggy as hell and have not even 10% of the content it's supposed to have in the eyes of many. But sure, there will be people complaining.

Doesn't even matter that that's what rocket said all along. People hear what they want to hear, and blame you, if it doesn't happen.

I'll probably mutate in some kind of a fanboy then... will be hard work....

Read his Twitter. They had been working on the Standalone whole week, so I doubt they had the time for a tumblr last week. That only means we are getting it faster, so don't worry.

With what is happening over at "that other game" rocket needs to capitalise on it, an update now would be a nail in their coffin. Please please please please please. many more fans just looking for an excuse.

I don't like where they placed the swamp... I pictured it as some dark, overgrown place in the middle of the woods, not some kind of beachy paradise.

Couldn't agree more. It should have been further inland and run into a river that runs into the ocean.

This was posted on Reddit by Rocket yesterday, for those of you that can´t wait for devblog updates:

Virtually everything that existed in ArmA2 is being reworked. A quick summary of what is being done right now:

  • New Skeleton and animations. Completely done again from scratch. The previous rig was a decade old. All these animations are to be motion captured from scratch again. This is a long term project, but the first results will be seen with zombies relatively soon. This is a big deal. Any animators out there will no just how much of a change this will make.
  • New Zombie AI. As noted this is being worked on at the moment. First step has been getting zombies to run inside, which looks great
  • Entirely new weapons. Every weapon and item in standalone is being redone. The new AK is the first weapon and it looks amazing. It also features a number of attachments.

Nothing is just copied over from the mod. I can't think of a single asset that has not been reworked and redeveloped so far, everything is being made better, more optimized, or something like that.

Even Better if he fired it into a Blog to keep everyone happy! If the info is there after all.

I wish that the nature would be a greater threat for the players (not just temperature drop because of rain). For example, swamps actually could swallow you if you go there unprepared... animals - Bears, Boars, Wolves, Snakes... you know.

Also, see, as I said, Rocket has quite a large dev team.

I don’t know if it was a hack but I watch a lot of Twitch DayZ/Wasteland and I kid you not there was rabbit’s.

Not killer Rabbit's all the same. Zombie Dogs sure would put the fear back into the game.

Whatever happened to the dogs anyway? lol

The velociraptors ate them.

Opps, I've said too much!

You'll see...
