Bozzy1979 1 Posted February 4, 2013 Hi guys,Just bought myself a new gaiming Pc just so i can play dayz, finding it a bit of a struggle mastering the keyboard and mouse again for gaming but really enjoying it so far. After a few hickups getting the game to allow me into servers (battle eye, run as admin etc) i've finally managed to get going.Learning quickly not to trust anyone as i keep getting shot for no reason (even just running around with no weapons). Biggest thing i need help on is finding decent guns.. best i have found so far is the lee enfield .. and playing on the noobs playground server i dont start with a map so get lost quite easily.Other thing i need help with is shrugging off chasing zombies! i can get into a real Benny Hill moment running for miles with 10 or so zombies in tow. Everytime i turn around they are still there.I'm an IT guy but gaming isnt something i've dabbled with before so i dont know much about GPU's etc. I'm running this on a HD 7750 for now as it was cheap from a friend but i'm looking to go to a GTX680 when i get paid.. what would this give me over the 7750?Thanks. Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 4, 2013 Depends on your CPU mate. ARMA II is a really CPU intensive game so if your processor's so-so then it'll bottleneck and the 680 won't do you a whole lot of good. If you've got something like an i5 3570k then a 680 will compliment it nicely.

monsterrrkill@hotmail.co.uk 21 Posted February 4, 2013 Hallo thurrrr! Welcome back to the wondrous world of PC gaming ;)First off, you're right to not trust anyone. I feel the same after my recent encounters, but I'm adamant not to follow in the same footsteps. But everyone plays to their own style, and many have to thought sod it, I'll shoot on sight because everyone else does. But it's not true! I've had some great encounters with friendly folk! Don't lose hope on that haha. I'm going to presume you're playing on Chernarus? I actually don't have all that much experience on the map in all honesty, though I know that the decent gear isn't on the south coast where you spawn, but in military encampments located in various places across the map. But they are of course hotspots for activity which makes it a constant struggle and gamble trying to gear up but it's all part of the fun. Deer stands that are scattered around also can have decent guns in them. Head over to http://dayzdb.com/map which has colour coded icons to show you where certain loot will spawn. It's really useful even when you have a map in game!Zombies are easy to lose, just find a bush! If you run into one they won't be able to hit you (for the most part) and you can easily take them out with a hatchet or pistol, or just let them lose interest and wander off. I find that sprinting through a clump of small trees and bushes will make them lose me.In regards to your graphics card, I would always recommend Nvidia ;) I hope I've been of some help here. I'm sure more experienced players have more to add but I figured I'd try my best at a constructive comment!
Ivanuvo (DayZ) 117 Posted February 4, 2013 A few tips: Don't stay on the south coast, and if you do, don't go into Chernogorsk or Elektrozavodsk, they're sniping hotspots. It doesn't matter if you're armed or not, they just do it for the lulz. And don't fire the Lee Enfield unless you have to, it's quite loud. They call that gun the dinner bell for a reason. If you can't find a bush like Haylzorz said, try breaking their line of sight with buildings, they'll lose interest.Getting used to the keyboard and mouse is just a matter of practise.
John69 64 Posted February 4, 2013 Zombies are the least worries in this game, just wait and see. Players on the other hand...hm, thats a tricky oneIf you are running with a bunch of zombies on youre six, dont turn around, just use the numpad keys "1" and "3" to look behind you, dont stop to turn around, you will loose the advantage, keys "4" and "6" will give you a side view.Running through buildings also help (ex. big red brick buildings, schools and supermarkeds) they usally give up then.Crunch and prone when needed, running upright only when theres no zeds around (80-100meters)
Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 4, 2013 I find using the Alt key and mouse to look around a lot easier than using the numpad. :S

Mr Nasty 1023 Posted February 4, 2013 you can alt mouse to look around while running?
Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 4, 2013 Holding Alt gives you control of your head. Probably the best thing about ARMA, lol. How do you not know this? xD
Mr Nasty 1023 Posted February 4, 2013 no no I know it but i usually use that while prone or sitting in a vehicle. but while running I use the numpad keys to look over my shoulder.
OrLoK 16187 Posted February 4, 2013 for me, not being a chav :) , using alt and mouse gives me more control.

Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) The 680 and a bit of an overclock would be nice then. I imagine you'd run ARMA II near maxed out with pretty solid FPS. :) Edited February 4, 2013 by mZLY

Bozzy1979 1 Posted February 4, 2013 The other thing i'm a bit amiss with is the voip setup. On xbox live its really straight forward but im struggling to get to grips with this.. or am i just over thinking it?
Mr Nasty 1023 Posted February 4, 2013 The other thing i'm a bit amiss with is the voip setup. On xbox live its really straight forward but im struggling to get to grips with this.. or am i just over thinking it?In game VOIP is usually restricted or frowned upon. However getting it to work in my case did not require any additional configuration. Press '.' to toggle chat menu and '/' to change the channel and 'caps lock' to communicate. Sorry for any redundant info.
DazTroyer 227 Posted February 4, 2013 I was like you a pc noob just a few months ago, got DayZ and haven't played much else since. The controls just take time and tbh Dayz ain't the best game to teach you, what with perma death. You won't regret crossing over from console though. As for guns, i usual go on a quick loot run of Cherno or Electro then head for Stary med tents. It's not far to run, after that it's crash sites or NWA. On our server we have added loads more barracks around the map, makes getting geared up somewhat easier. :)
Guest Posted February 4, 2013 Numpad FTW, it's out of the way for my combat controls so I don't accidently hit the look right button instead of crouch....
