What server ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Well I finally broke my cherry, downloaded the game and gave it a go for the first time. It's left me with a few queries.

I thought that when you started you started with nothing. I joined a couple of servers and one started me with a crossbow and another gave me night vision and a pistol. I don't get it.

Wheres the continuity?

How can I make sure I start playing on the correct servers ?

The server list is a bit of a pain as well. A lot don't mention their time zone so you spawn in blackness which aint good for a noob like me.

Don't get me wrong guys, I really like the game but need to get over a few hurdles till I get used to it and I don't wan't to start playing on some wierd server and not be able to move across onto another.

DayZ Commander will help you out mate, its got a filter so you can take out non official (private) servers, the official servers will start you with the proper DayZ gear but you will encounter hackers unless you find a decent private server with good admins or a whitelisted server will probably be your best option

If you're new I'd just recommend going with the flow.

All your experiences should be wonderful, good or bad, because they're all new experiences.

I still get excited running along the coast with just a bandage and painkillers.

Been playing a coupla months so I'm a noob too.

Also, I use a private hive for hoarding stuff in my tents or sorting out vehicles and friendships; and I use public servers for my action adventures.

Night time adds even more to the experience but I understand it's a pain when you're new. You can filter DayZ Commander so it shows only daytime servers by the way.

Have fun! :)

FYI, because I didn't know what the term meant, whitelisting or whitelisted servers is where you apply to join and play on them, and they check your game ID number against several known cheater or hacker lists prior to allowing you to play. This ensures that the players you encounter in the game are not hacking or cheating. Generally whitelisted servers have more active admins whereby if you do encounter a hacker or cheater, they are caught and banned from the server immediately.

As mentioned above, use DayZ Commander (stickied thread in the Gen Discussion forum), it shows you official/unofficial servers, shows time of day of server (somewhat buggy) and helps you stay up to date with the game files.

Welcome to DayZ!

A word of advice, I'd turn your preconception of video games on its head before you play. DayZ doesn't exactly follow the accepted conventions...

First, check this forum and read about the different servers that are available: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/64-private-hive-discussion/

Next, as someone else said, use DayZ Commander, and then just look at the server names. It usually says important info, like the server time if day/night is enabled, and if you start with anything.

Joined Balota Bodies last night so look forward to giving their servers a go tonight after miserable work.

Any favoured servers ?
