How safe are white list servers?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I wanted some feedback on white list servers. I am tired of hackers and going through scripts till my eyes burn :( How safe are they and what is the advantage of having one? Thanks for any feedback :)

Only the people who sign up are allowed on, anyone else will be instantly kicked.

They are safe because you have to be on the whitelist in order to play on the server. If there are any problems they can be fix quickly and you generally get to know the players better as they play together more without all the random players.

I am sure that hackers would still try and join a white listed server (since they are tards) what if they hide a while then attack? What I really mean is, is it easier to locate the cancer with in the group?

It's possible but it's less likely. Anything can be hacked if they try hard enough.

No, they don't... It takes a lot of time and they know they will get kicked before they can cause any harm.

judging by a recent stream from a well known youtube, whitelists dont protect you as much as you think. During the process of the stream, on a whitelisted server, they must have had at least 20 hackers teleport to them and attempt to kill them.

That comes with the territory of being a popular streamer and is one of the reasons most cover player names etc

It really comes down to those running the server. If the admins are active round the clock and clued then you'll usually be pretty safe.

I run a whitelist server. It is a huge task to attract people to come onto the server and make it their home. The admins have to be vigilant though. It takes a while to find your players.

Pro: it's obvious.. less mass kills (notice: less mass kills.. it doesn't mean less cheaters.. i'll explain later).

Cons:

- The population is mostly static, so the mood of finding "new ppl" is someay lost .. you may end up to be "all friends" and stuff like that. There's less "thrill" in general and if ppl gets bored, they may ends up to leave the server (it's admin and supported job to keep the server populated);

- There will be much more less mass-kill .. scripting.. and any other "obvious/disrupting" cheat/hack, but it doesn't mean there won't be cheaters: there will be still cheaters using "passive" cheats (like ESP and such), and they are even worse than normal cheaters, coz they are a way "smarter": they have enough brain to not make mistakes to be found by an admin (neither ad admin using spectatic view). There will be some mass-killers time to time (those ones that are dedicate enough to signup and that are using a good bypasser), admins will have an hard time to identify em and to justify why a mass-kill happened on a "white listed" server.

- Be sure to chose the server that handles the guid verification the correct way: some servers are using gotcha to handle it, with RCON debug messages enabled, the RCON gets flooded pretty fast and the "join" messages are delayed, it means that a script kid can join the server, spawn and kill everyone before the script can kick him.

Does anyone know the correct way to make my server a white list server? and is there a simple application?

I decided to go with DayZ+ and I will not white list it, yet! I would like to populate the server and then maybe do the white list thing :) we have admins on 24/7 and finding a hacker is not hard, just sometimes time consuming <_<

Had to edit since I need to clarify, that the kids that do the "scripting" are definitely NOT hackers

Good luck to you starting the non whitelist. Just keep in mind once you start merging to whitelisting and look into a few of your players backgrounds the count might go back down you would be suprised what you find in a simple search on players.

Your admins vigilance is key to making it work right.
