Ideal opening-track in DayZ

Recommended Posts

Post what you think would set the mood an DayZ SA-intro.

For extra points post music you have created yourselves!

Max one link in each post.

My first pick is one that maybe only works the first time you see the intro, but for those who have heard the song before or like it now, after having listened to it, surely would get a kick hearing this song before starting up SA for the first time.

Love the Faith No More version but might as well just use the original Sabbath version.

I think DayZ lends itself to a more desolate sounding instrumental type of music personally but still a top tune you've chosen.

Only thing that springs to mind is a good ol' bit of Aphex Twin... although it takes a while to get going.

Jean Pierre Taieb - The Divide

Just wanted to give a reason: I think that the game should be more about the drama of the apocalypse than about our nerd wish of smacking heads.

I think this really fits if the map is still Chernarus

or the soundtrack for this game: http://www.kongregat...Skipper/insurgo sorry I couldn't get music by itself, also it's random which song plays but they are all pretty good.

Maybe

... In the Woods actually fits DayZ amazingly

This was used in GoW3 trailer, but I think it fits quite well with DayZ.

I think DayZ would need a sad feeling acoustic song, anything else wouldn't do it justice. Something maybe by Johnny Cash ;) I like Kino, the band Chris posted...

HA maybe they should use Mad World! ;)

I'd also think Opeth would do great band to use songs from, they have a generally dark feel around their songs. And let's face it DayZ will be a dark game ;) Isolation Years or I feel the Dark fit well ;)

Johnny Cash would be cool, Dawn of the Dead (the remake) used When the Man Comes Around and it was good, pretty much anything that sounds kind of sad is good.

EDIT

That's why I think Kino is suitable not only because it clicks with the Chernarus environment (Kino is 80s soviet rock band) but also because they have some sad and some almost cheery music. You can check out some of their songs if you want, I would recommend

Completely agree that an ambient theme would be the most appropriate, but my first pick there "war pigs" is in my opinion a cool idea beacuse it`s open to interpret out of your personal playstyle, kind of.

Say if you were a bandit - it would sound rebelleous in a "let`s do some damage" way

A hero - It would kind of remind you of who is your targets and who you protect

New players - I`m thinking it would remind me that when I log in for the first time, and get that greeting song, I would be afraid. Very afraid.

The issue I see with Kino, is that a lot of people don't understand Russian, I can only barley read it. Plus that it clicks with chernogorsk is a double edge blade. Maybe I'm thinking to hard... but I don't want to lock DayZ down to only Eastern European cultures. Though I do think that Kino song does fit the bill ;)

This is one of my all time favorite songs. The vocalist shows so much pain in this song. There's a lot of emotions, plus it's lyrically genius. Edited by Bullfrog

Selected ambient work : volume 2 by AFX : welcome to hell ! :D

(played DayZ on low populated, night servers, and damn it's scary when you can't see at all and you have this kind of music with the zombies around...)

Gotta be you being chased by zombies and falling off a cliff into the ocean, then clips of you drifting back to shore further away, then you waking up surrounded and the camera pans up to show you surrounded by zeds.

Whilst Black by Kari kimmel is playing

yep. this is my clear favorite. i can really see this being the standalone track.

whitout the vocals it would fit perfectly for the "bandit" part of the game, but the lack of drama really doesnt fit for the generic survivor.

I think this really fits if the map is still Chernarus

while i dont think it should be the intro of the standalone, this should DEFENITELY be available to listen to in the game itself.

imagine a bunker or bar or something... then you walk in and hear this... cant be more atmospheric/authentic than that.

Edit: i found

in a dayZ video, it doesnt fit as a standalone soundrack, but the lyrics and sound kinda define dayZ... this is the thing a survivor might sing on the campfire with a guitar, fully aware that he will die one day, and respawn some day... Edited by Wep0n

"Aenema" by Tool. Edited of course, bits and pieces of that song still get me jazzed, sad, and creeped out to this day. I also agree on the Johnny Cash "When the Man Comes Around" referenece earlier. But might be too cliche for some since its been done before.

This is by far the best. It really fits in with the theme.

Today...

I`m gonna get, get myself a gun

I'm gonna shoot...

I wanna shoot...

All that I've got is one bullet

I've got a finger on the trigger

Oh,

I wanna pull it...

I wanna shoot my ego down

I wanna shoot my ego down

Ego down...

Shoot it down...

Wait in the dark

And then..

From behind..

No one can stop me ...

'cause it's all in my mind!

I wanna shoot my ego down

I'm gonna shoot my ego down

ego down...

shoot it down...

I'm gonna shoot...

shoot it down...

I'm gonna shoot...

shoot it down...

shoot...

shoot it down...

shoot...

Watch the first zombie attack in 28 weeks later with this as the only sound playing.

Alternately this is what I play DayZ to:

That would be amazing, or maybe have a plugin for itunes or MP3 players en general where you can broad cast songs threw a make shift radio station. There could be a entire FM Net!
